Position Overview
The Intermodal Driver Manager oversees a fleet of intermodal drivers to ensure seamless coordination of operations between rail yards, ports, and customers. This role focuses on maximizing driver efficiency, ensuring compliance with safety and regulatory standards, and fostering strong relationships with drivers and stakeholders.
Key Responsibilities
Driver Oversight and Performance Management
Act as the primary point of contact for a team of intermodal drivers, providing guidance, support, and feedback.
Monitor driver performance metrics, such as on-time delivery rates and compliance with Hours of Service (HOS).
Address driver concerns promptly and implement strategies to improve retention and satisfaction.
Conduct regular driver evaluations and recommend training or corrective actions as necessary.
Operational Coordination
Work closely with dispatchers, planners, and customer service teams to assign loads and optimize routes.
Coordinate with rail yards and port facilities to streamline the movement of intermodal containers.
Ensure timely and accurate communication with drivers about schedules, load details, and route updates.
Track and report on driver and fleet performance to the Director of Operations / Terminal Manager.
Compliance and Safety
Ensure all drivers adhere to DOT, FMCSA, and company safety regulations.
Conduct regular audits of driver logs and ensure proper documentation of activities.
Address any incidents, accidents, or compliance issues, coordinating with the safety department as needed.
Problem Solving and Issue Resolution
Troubleshoot and resolve operational issues, such as delays, equipment breakdowns, or driver shortages.
Act as a liaison between drivers, customers, and internal departments to resolve conflicts and ensure smooth operations.
Administrative Duties
Maintain accurate records of driver schedules, performance, and compliance.
Prepare reports for management, highlighting key metrics and improvement opportunities.
Assist in developing policies and procedures to improve intermodal operations.
Qualifications
Experience : Minimum of 2 years in intermodal operations.
Education : High school diploma or equivalent (Bachelor’s degree in logistics or related field preferred).
Skills : Strong knowledge of intermodal transportation, routing, and logistics software (TMS experience preferred).
Excellent communication, organizational, and problem-solving skills.
Familiarity with DOT and FMCSA regulations.
