A new therapeutic school, located in Newport, Vt, is seeking a Special Educator. This program will serve students with academic and behavioral challenges- serving up to 8 elementary aged students. The program will offer individualized,small group learning in a developmentally appropriate, therapeutic learning environment for students whose needs cannot be met in their home schools.
This person will be responsible for being an active member of a team and must be willing to work in an interdisciplinary manner- working with Behavioral Clinicians, a General Educator and Behavior Therapists. This person will collaborate on serving students with Specific Learning Disability, Autism Spectrum Disorder, Other Health Impairment, and Emotional Disturbance.
Ideal candidates will be responsible for implementing, contributing to, and upholding Individualized Education Plans. The Special Educator will engage in co-planning with the General Educator- ensuring that students can successfully access all academic instruction and opportunities. The Special Educator will collaborate with Local Education Authorities, parents, and each student to create programming which is individualized and in alignment with the student's Individualized Education Plan (IEP), supporting them.

The Expansion Program is seeking a Special Education Teacher to work full-time, in-person support to students grades K-6.

Job Description:
The Special educator will assess the individual student needs and develop IEP, deliver specialized instructions, and ensure that the student is receiving all necessary accommodations. They will also collaborate with the clinical staff and LEAs on a regular basis. Oversee specialized instruction implemented by Behavior Therapists regularly. The qualified individual will have the appropriate degree and licensure for the state of Vermont.
Role and Responsibilities of Special Educators:
- Licensed Special Educator for K-12
- Responsible for assessment, design, and implementation of services according to student IEPs
- Suggestion and recommendation of IEP goals and objectives as evidenced by evaluations, assessments and progress tracking
- Collaboration, communication, coordination with school teams on all IEP related matters
- Conduct and implement progress reporting per IEP goals and objectives
- Contribute to, and report out IEP goal progress each quarter on each student Quarterly Report
- Direction and oversight of support staff in implementing/administering instructional support for/with students
- Administer special education services and collaborate in case management as needed by the LEA;
- Prepare direct and indirect educational instruction; collaborate with General Education to provide in-class instruction, accommodations and modifications to instruction and prepare and/or deliver direct instruction via a small group pull-out model for students with need
- Collaborate with and meet with the general education team to plan for and provide accommodations and modifications to instruction
- be well versed in Special Education Law, service delivery, and the effects of trauma on learning and development
- Participate in the IEP process and collaborate in case management with the LEA [representatives];
- Utilize any State required forms for all special education related documentation;
- Abide by the Family Education Rights and Privacy Act (FERPA) and the HIPAA requirements regarding confidentiality and the maintenance of educational records. TRA will also abide by the Special Education requirements regarding the destruction of educational records.

- To collaborate and coordinate the planning and delivery of general education during the 5 week Extended School Year, this includes co-creating a project that addresses all four core content areas (attendance of all 5 weeks is not mandatory nor expected, it is expected that you are in attendance for some of the time). To support/complete grading and credit assignment with regards to summer general education
- To collaborate and coordinate with the other general and special education staff to determine ESY coverage
- To attend The Expansion Program staff meetings, designated professional development and in-service trainings as outlined in the The Expansion Program calendar
- Support or complete credit assignment and transcript completion
- To team with Behavior Therapist, Behavior Analyst and Therapist around implementing interventions within the classroom setting to promote student success
- As needed, plan and implement the delivery of additional skills instruction (health, life skills, etc)

Pay: $55,000.00 - $70,000.00 per hour
