Position Summary

Green River College seeks an adjunct faculty member to teach Criminal Justice, Criminal Investigations and Forensic Science courses. We seek highly committed individuals who can bring industry experience and leadership in serving students in the Criminal Justice program. The college seeks applicants with a commitment to innovate and maintain a high-quality education program, to work with diverse communities, and to cultivate student success through teaching, coaching, and mentoring.

Currently, instruction is both on campus and online. The program seeks to hire individuals with the ability to utilize a variety of instructional methods to deliver innovative hands-on learning experiences to a wide range of students. Candidates should bring experience and expertise that is especially suited to enhancing the success of under-represented and marginalized student populations. Green River College's student body is made up of approximately 41% Academic Transfer students, 34% Professional-Technical students, 15% Adult Basic Education student, and 3% Applied Bachelor degrees. Green River College has four campuses, including the main campus in Auburn, Washington, with satellite campuses in Kent, downtown Auburn, and Enumclaw. Green River programs serve high school graduates, Running Start students (dual enrollment in local high schools and the college), those seeking retraining for the workforce, international students, students learning English, and Continuing Education students. • Teach a variety of industry-related courses which may include the following subject areas : introductory course in criminal justice and forensic science, criminal and procedural law, corrections, criminal evidence and investigations, policing, etc.

Currently courses are being offered in person, online and hybrid formats.

The Criminal Justice Department at Green River College seeks an instructor to teach classes including, but not limited to, the following courses for both Criminal Justice majors and non-majors :

CJ& 101 - Introduction to Criminal Justice

CJ& 105 - Introduction to Corrections

CJ& 110 - Criminal Law

CJ 120 - Criminal Justice Professions

CJ 200 - Constitutional Law

CJ 205 - Criminal Evidence

CJ 220 - Race, Class & Criminal Justice

CJ 236 - Policing

CJ& 240 - Introduction to Forensic Science

Qualifications

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS :

Experience that indicates a sensitivity to and an understanding of the diverse academic, socioeconomic, cultural, disability, and ethnic backgrounds of community college students, including those with physical and learning disabilities.

Experience teaching Administration of Justice, Courts, Corrections courses at the college or professional level. See website for list of courses in Criminal Justice and Forensic Technology Programs.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS :

Master's degree or higher in related field.

Specialized experience and / or training in Corrections, Policing, Law, Forensic Science or Criminal Investigations

Adjunct faculty who initially meet the State Board Retirement Plan Eligibility criteria after June 30, 2011 are given the option to participate in the State Board Plan (TIAA-CREF) or to participate in TRS 3, and have 30 days to make a choice. The eligibility threshold for participation in the State Board Retirement Plan (TIAA-CREF) is 50 percent of a full-time workload

Leave accruals and usage are governed by the faculty master contract.
