Position Summary

The position leads and manages all Corporate and Continuing Education program financial and personnel resources to create a robust education and training program mix serving individuals, business, industry, government, and organizations. The Director leads all administrative functions of the department, including managing staff, faculty, consultants, vendors, and partner relationships. The position is responsible for the preparation and administration of budgets and ensures the financial integrity of the unit. This position will originate and support corporate training opportunities and coordinate Continuing Education activities to provide a consistent, standardized approach to the customer experience, including contracts, pricing, and processes/procedures. The Director will analyze trends and opportunities for both Contract Training and Open-Enrollment programs including business and technology, short-term job training and lifelong education in a self-support environment.

This position is located at the Kent Campus and oversees all Green River College service areas including the Kent Campus, Auburn Center, Enumclaw Campus, Main Campus, and community locations. Local travel between campus locations, to local businesses as well as occasional evening and weekend hours for community and business engagement may be required.


ABOUT THE COLLEGE:

Green River College's student body is made up of approximately 41% Academic Transfer students, 34% Professional-Technical students, 15% Adult Basic Education student, and 3% Applied Bachelor degrees. Green River College has four campuses, including the main campus in Auburn, Washington, with satellite campuses in Kent, downtown Auburn, and Enumclaw. Green River programs serve high school graduates, Running Start students (dual enrollment in local high schools and the college), those seeking retraining for the workforce, international students, students learning English, and Continuing Education students. Green River's service areas are increasingly ethnically diverse, comprising African Americans, African immigrants, Asian Americans, Asians, Latinx, Native Americans, Pacific Islanders, and Middle Eastern Americans, among other communities.

Position Responsibilities

  • Secure and implement contract training and grant programs including writing proposals, creating and managing budgets, hiring instructors and marketing.
  • Direct complex projects including market and financial analysis, IT facilities and equipment improvements and software purchasing.
  • Initiate new programs, courses and training contracts to meet self-support target income levels.
  • Prepare and deliver Continuing Education and Corporate Training program updates and monitoring reports in accordance with college timelines and standards.
  • Work with business, industry, and community to develop education and training programs that will meet the needs of the labor market.
  • Seek Industry training contracts and manage the contract flow process from initiation to completion in accordance with college and state board standard practices.
  • Collaborate with workforce education on new program development.
  • Organizes and guides strategic planning exercises for Continuing Education and Corporate Training for the purpose of long- and short-range goal identification and achievement.
  • Hire staff, consultants, and others as needed to fulfill the obligations of the department
  • Supervise, direct, assign, and assist instructors, consultants, and vendors in the performance of their duties
  • Manage and direct the work of professional and supervisory staff, and lead personnel decisions of staff located throughout the district.
  • Establishes and maintains external partnerships leading to opportunities for Green River College. These opportunities include customized training, grants, contract training, collaborations on workforce initiatives, and other ways community partners engage with the college.
  • Evaluate or direct the evaluation of education and training programs created by Corporate Training, and based on findings recommend or initiate revisions, if needed
  • Lead and direct the preparation of an annual budget showing the estimated financial needs for the ensuing fiscal year, with an emphasis on maintaining the operation of the department at its current or greater capacity
  • Exercise leadership in the grant and contract budget request process with responsibility for the preparation and administration of all budgets for the administrative unit
  • Represent Continuing Education and Corporate Training at college meetings, community meetings, and conferences as the chief spokesperson, and represent the department to the general public
  • Lead student and program management systems, policies, and procedures as they pertain to Continuing Education and Corporate Training
  • Prepare reports for grants, contract partners, and state agencies; responsible for internal and external communications, including keeping stakeholders informed
  • Position Continuing Education and Corporate Training as a regional leader, strengthening alliances with local businesses and industries, school districts, colleges, and other partners to meet the region's community education and workforce training demands.
  • Serve as an advocate for Continuing Education and Corporate Training, communicating the value and purpose to college leadership.
  • Lead and assist instructional personnel in the development of customized course curriculum
  • Lead and direct the creation of effective marketing strategies and materials for Continuing Education and Corporate Training
  • Other duties as assigned

Qualifications

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:


  • Bachelor’s degree in Education, Communications, Business, Public Administration, IT or related field; direct experience with evidence of quality performance may substitute up to 2 years of education
  • Minimum 2 years project management and/or educational program administration experience
  • Demonstrated experience in developing, implementing, and evaluating adult professional development programs
  • Experience working in a community organization, corporate training, professional association, education or training program
  • Experience with budgeting, fiscal record keeping, and reporting
  • Self-directed
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
  • Master’s degree in Business Administration, Human Resources, Marketing, Communications, Public Administration, Vocational/Technical Education, or closely related field from an accredited institution
  • Grant writing or contract implementation experience
  • Two (2) years’ experience in program development and corporate outreach

  • Excellent written and verbal communication, able to present clearly and concisely to individuals, small and large groups at in-person and online events.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills, demonstrated ability to establish and maintain relationships with industry/business managers and various community-based organizations and educational partners on and off-campus
  • Proactive, engaged, and able to handle multiple projects and complete tasks with competing deadlines
  • Demonstrated ability to work independently as well as part of a team
  • Experience working with and a commitment to diverse communities; ability to communicate and work respectfully and effectively with people from diverse backgrounds such as racial, ethnic, religious, linguistic, gender, age, sexual orientation, socio-economic, and with varied physical or learning disabilities
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office (especially Word and Excel), along with a general comfort with technology and willingness to learn
  • Able to maintain confidentiality, interpret complex information, think critically, problem solve creatively, and exercise independent judgment
  • Understanding of and curiosity for diverse perspectives and commitment to learning about different cultures and student populations, to advocate for a diverse population of students

WORKING CONDITIONS AND REQUREMENTS:

  • Must have the ability to sit for prolonged periods of time at a desk/computer workstation and exposure to compute screen in performing work assignments
  • Frequent repetitive arm, hand, and finger motions
  • Work in an office setting with regular interruptions
  • Must have reliable regular transportation to in-person recruitment events, typically within 30 miles, may be further
  • Valid WA driver’s license and automobile Insurance or equivalent evidence of reliable transportation to/from events with ability to transport college outreach/recruitment materials
  • May need to carry, lift or move equipment/supplies up to 50lbs for outreach events
