What are the responsibilities and job description for the Electronics Disassembly, Recycling and Warehouse Specialist position at Green Star of Interior Alaska?
Electronics Recycling, warehouse and Disassembly Specialist
We are looking for a full-time employee to join our small team at Green Star of Interior Alaska. As the electronics recycling contractor for the Fairbanks North Star Borough and the regional coordinator for Backhaul Alaska (https://backhaulalaska.org) our electronics recycling warehouse in Fairbanks is the epicenter of our electronics reuse, disassembly and recycling work.
In this role you will be responsible for helping the reuse team triage incoming electronics and computer systems for components which may still be working, or which could be used in their refurbishing workflow.
Most of your time will be spent disassembling computers, servers, network equipment and other electronics which cannot otherwise be reused, and sorting, palletizing, and packaging electronics for shipment to our downstream recycling partners. Specifically, you will be taught to completely disassemble and sort each component of these electronics into each of several types of recyclable material, which to stage and package where, how to weigh and document each type of material being recycled and how to prepare materials for shipment. Over 99.5% of the material which arrives at our electronics recycling warehouse is reused or recycled.
Additional duties include boxing, palletizing, labeling, shipping and loading / unloading of loose, palletized or boxed components. You will need the ability to lift items up to 50 pounds. Experience with forklifts, palette jacks, material handling equipment, scales and warehouse equipment is helpful but not required.
About Green Star of Interior Alaska: Green Star of Interior Alaska is 501©(3) nonprofit serving the Fairbanks North Star Borough and Interior Alaskans. Our programs encourage reuse of materials, reduction of unnecessary waste, and increasing recycling efforts in our community.
