Supervision & Leadership
- Manage and direct mechanics and shop personnel.
- Assign work orders and prioritize repairs based on operational needs.
- Ensure all maintenance tasks adhere to Tri-State Tree Service policies and DOT regulations.
- Train and mentor mechanics to improve skills and efficiency.
- Conduct performance evaluations and recommend necessary training.
- Actively participate in maintenance and repair operations, performing hands-on mechanical work alongside the team as needed.
- Oversee diagnostics, troubleshooting, and repairs of trucks, chippers, stump grinders, trailers, and heavy equipment.
- Ensure preventive maintenance schedules are followed and documented in Fleetio or similar software.
- Maintain up-to-date knowledge of industry best practices, equipment, and technology specific to tree service operations.
- Oversee ordering of parts and inventory management to ensure timely repairs and minimal downtime.
- Coordinate with external vendors for specialized repairs.
- Ensure all equipment is properly maintained for safe operation in field conditions.
- Ensure all vehicles meet DOT safety standards and pass inspections.
- Maintain Driver Vehicle Inspection Reports (DVIRs) and work with drivers to address defects.
- Oversee proper documentation of all maintenance and repair work.
- Conduct periodic audits of vehicle maintenance records.
- Oversee and maintain accurate service records and track maintenance costs using Fleetio.
- Monitor and manage the shop budget, including labor and materials.
- Generate reports on fleet conditions, repair needs, and expenditures for management.
- Ensure all work is documented and receipts for parts and services are properly recorded and stored.
- Review and validate invoices and receipts to ensure accurate financial tracking and cost control.
- Communicate regularly with operations and fleet managers to anticipate maintenance needs.
- Minimum of 5 years of experience as a diesel mechanic and 2 years of experience as a Shop Foreman or Fleet manager.
- Experience in a leadership or supervisory role.
- Strong knowledge of DOT regulations and compliance requirements.
- Proficiency in diagnostic tools and repair procedures.
- High school diploma or equivalent; technical training preferred.
- Familiarity with Fleetio or similar fleet management software.
- Excellent problem-solving and organizational skills.
- Ability to communicate effectively with mechanics, drivers, and management.
- In-depth knowledge of diesel engine components and operational mechanisms

Work Environment
- Equipment yard, open-air maintenance facility with occasional fieldwork at job sites.
- May require lifting heavy equipment and working in various weather conditions.
