Tri-State Tree Service is searching for a skilled tree groundsman and stump grinder to join our company. In this role, you will be responsible for operating stump grinding equipment to remove tree stumps efficiently and safely from residential and commercial properties. The ideal candidate will have experience in operating heavy machinery, a strong attention to detail, and a commitment to delivering high-quality results. Duties include reporting to the foreman, assisting teamwork, collecting and piling branches, maintaining tools and equipment, and ensuring hazard-free work areas. You should be able to work with a variety of crew members.
To be successful as a tree groundsman, you should be physically strong and able to work in extreme weather conditions. Outstanding tree groundsmen and climbers should be able to carry out instructions efficiently and complete all maintenance tasks to the highest standard.
Responsibilities:
- Operate stump grinding equipment to remove tree stumps from various locations, including residential yards, parks, and commercial properties.
- Safely transport equipment to job sites and set up machinery in accordance with safety protocols and industry standards.
- Assess each stump removal job to determine the most effective and efficient approach, considering factors such as stump size, location, and surrounding landscape.
- Safeguard surrounding property, structures, and landscaping from damage during stump removal operations.
- Operate machinery with precision and care to ensure thorough stump grinding while minimizing impact on the surrounding area.
- Monitor equipment performance and conduct routine maintenance to ensure proper functioning and longevity of machinery.
- Adhere to safety guidelines and regulations at all times, including wearing appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE) and following proper operating procedures.
- Communicate effectively with team members and clients to coordinate job scheduling, address concerns, and ensure customer satisfaction.
- Maintain accurate records of work performed, including job details, equipment usage, and any issues encountered.
- Carrying out all maintenance duties allocated by the Crew Leader.
- Assisting Arborists with tree removals, pruning, and debris disposals.
- Learning techniques and the proper use of tools from senior or more experienced crew members.
- Safely using tools and equipment like chippers and chainsaws to carry out maintenance tasks.
- Ensuring all sites are kept clean and free of hazards.
- Inspecting equipment and tools and performing repairs and maintenance when required.
- Adhering to company and environmental regulations at all times.
Requirements:
- High school diploma or GED.
- Previous work experience as a stump grinder, tree groundsman or similar.
- Good physical strength, fitness, vision, and hearing.
- The ability to climb, stand, walk, kneel, and stoop.
- The ability to transport heavy items.
- Excellent balance and depth perception.
- Superb communication skills.
- The ability to follow written and verbal instructions.
- The willingness to work during unfavorable weather conditions.
- A positive attitude.
