The Meat Clerk is responsible for assisting in the daily operations of the meat department. This includes preparing, packaging, and labeling meat products, ensuring proper storage, maintaining cleanliness, and delivering excellent customer service.
Key Responsibilities:
- Assist customers with meat selections, answer questions, and provide recommendations.
- Cut, slice, grind, and prepare various types of meat (beef, pork, poultry, etc.) as directed by the Meat Manager or Butcher.
- Weigh, wrap, and label meat products for display or custom orders.
- Keep the meat case fully stocked with fresh products.
- Rotate products using the "first in, first out" method to ensure freshness.
- Maintain a clean and sanitized work environment by regularly cleaning tools, equipment, and display cases.
- Follow proper food safety procedures, including handling, storage, and temperature regulations.
- Wear appropriate safety gear, such as gloves and aprons, to prevent contamination.
- Assist in receiving and unloading meat deliveries.
- Work alongside the Meat Manager, Butcher, and other team members to ensure department goals are met.
Qualifications:
- Previous experience in a grocery or meat department is a plus, but on-the-job training is typically provided.
- Strong communication and customer service skills.
- Basic math skills for weighing, pricing, and inventory management.
- Knowledge of proper food handling and safety guidelines.
- Ability to lift up to 50 pounds.
- Must be able to stand for extended periods and work in cold environments.
- Must be able to use sharp tools and equipment safely.
