Greenbrier Dental Center is a single office, privately owned, full service general, dental practice serving the Greenbrier area of Chesapeake, Virginia since 1985.

Our dental office has five dentists, six hygienists, eighteen dental assistants and twenty-one office administrators making us one of the most successful dental practices in Hampton Roads.

About the Role:

As a Dental Assistant, you will play a crucial role in providing high-quality dental care to our patients. Your main focus will be to assist the dentist or hygienist in delivering efficient and effective dental procedures, ensuring patient comfort and satisfaction. You will contribute to the overall success of the dental practice by providing exceptional patient care and maintaining a clean and organized work environment. Your attention to detail and ability to work well in a team will be essential in delivering a positive dental experience for our patients.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Completion of a Dental Assisting program or equivalent experience.
  • X-ray Certificate for the State of Virginia.
  • Knowledge of dental terminology and procedures.
  • Familiarity with sterilization and infection control protocols by adhering to all current OSHA regulations of care in a healthcare setting.
  • Ability to perform body motions required for dental procedures, such as bending, reaching, and standing for extended periods.
  • Compassion and empathy towards patients, ensuring their comfort and well-being during dental procedures.
  • Experience with dental treatment planning and charting of proposed procedures and or existing restorations.
  • Proficiency in using dental software, such as Eaglesoft or similar systems.
  • Detail-Oriented
  • Excellent work ethics
  • Dependable and have a great attendance record

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Certification as a Dental Assistant.
  • 2 years Experience working in a dental office or clinic.
  • Knowledge of dental insurance and billing procedures.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to build rapport with patients and co-workers.
  • Ability to multitask and prioritize tasks in a fast-paced environment.
  • Familiarity with digital dental records and imaging systems.

Responsibilities:

  • Assist the dentist or hygienist during dental procedures, ensuring the patient's comfort and safety.
  • Prepare and sterilize dental instruments and equipment, following strict infection control protocols.
  • Take digital dental x-rays, ensuring accurate and high-quality images.
  • Provide chairside assistance to the dentist or hygienist, including passing instruments, suctioning, coronal polishing, fluoride application, taking impressions and providing oral hygiene instructions to patients.
  • Obtain and review health histories according to office protocol.
  • Ensure patients’ questions are answered thoroughly before they leave.
  • Maintain accurate patient records and assist with scheduling appointments and managing patient flow. Charting patient's treatment and record date, service rendered and any charges.
  • Ensure proper treatment notes are recorded in patient’s chart.
  • Securely handle patient records in compliance with state and federal requirements, including the HIPAA privacy and security regulations
  • Schedule future dental appointments and assist in the administration of patients' dental recall system.
  • Good interpersonal skills to maintain effective rapport with patients, dentists, other staff members and community
  • Effective verbal skills to communicate with patients and staff
  • Must be able to blind touch type with accuracy 30-45 wpm, computer literate, chart treatment and place notes in patients` records in a timely manner.
  • Must be comfortable seeing and able to maintain a professional demeanor and attitude while working around blood and unpleasant smells.
  • Must be able to work a 35-36 hour work week to include two evenings until 6:00pm.

Working Conditions/Physical Requirements

  • Standing 80%.
  • Sitting 20%.
  • Moderate noise levels from dental and other lab equipment.
  • Medical, office, and lab setting.
  • Minimum moving requirements of 35 pounds in order to transfer equipment and pack and unpack supplies.
  • Frequent bending, twisting, and position changes in order to examine and service patients.
  • Exceptional hand eye coordination and control in order to use dental implements for exams, to provide dentist assistance, and mix and/or place materials on dental tools, products, and in mouths.
  • Frequent client and interoffice personnel interaction as this position is chair-side to dentist and heavily dependent on excellent customer interaction.
  • Exceptional typing skills to work with standard Eaglesoft software program provided.
  • Near Vision—the ability to see details at close range (within a few feet of the observer) as required for mixing and placing materials on tools and in mouths.
  • Potential occupational exposure to trace amounts of nitrous oxide and/or x-rays.
