Job Description
This position is responsible for providing coaching, instruction, and support designed to prepare students and athletes for current and future success. The position provides leadership in the development and improvement of the softball program by developing athletes’ knowledge, skills, sportsmanship, and motivation to excel.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
Teaching & Learning
- Teaches District-approved curriculum daily.
- Implements school and district curricular and instructional goals.
- Collaboratively participates in and contributes to curriculum development and creation of unit organizers.
- Develops lesson plans and instructional material.
- Implements the school and district’s Model of Instruction.
- Implements the Science of Reading in all instructions.
- Uses evidence-based Tier I instruction and creates tiered interventions/extensions based on student data.
- Implements the school and district’s Multi-Tiered System of Support (MTSS).
- Implements evidence-based assessment and grading practices aligned with district systems.
- Develops and administers content-specific assessments to evaluate student competency.
- Establishes clear objectives and success criteria for lessons, units, and projects and communicates them to students.
- Progress monitors student growth (academic, social, behavioral) and reports data to the Student Intervention Team.
- Creates and maintains a classroom environment that is inviting, conducive, and appropriate to learning.
- Participates in school and district-wide Social and Emotional Learning (SEL) initiatives.
- Instructs students for the purpose of improving their success in academics through a defined course of study.
- Guides the learning process toward the achievement of curricular goals.
- Carries out lesson plans into developmentally appropriate learning experiences daily.
- Assists students in establishing and maintaining standards of behavior to create an effective learning atmosphere.
- Ensures substitutes have all necessary information for effective instruction.
Athletics
- Displays leadership skills to support the athletic program.
- Serves as a positive and productive member of the athletic department.
- Contributes to the climate and culture of the athletic department.
- Assists athletes in maintaining high standards of behavior and learning atmosphere daily.
- Progress monitors athletes' growth (academic, social, behavioral, skills) and reports data.
- Communicates with athletes and parents on student progress regularly.
- Demonstrates knowledge of the sport, training and conditioning, injury prevention and management, and human development.
- Expects and maintains a positive learning environment and conduct for athletes.
- Assists the head coach in preparing and supervising individual participants.
- Observes play and devises strategies to improve individual and team performance.
- Assumes responsibility for team members under his/her supervision.
- Promotes good sportsmanship and enforces all rules and regulations.
Attends all practices and contests of the assigned sport. - Complies with board-adopted emergency medical procedures during practices and competitions.
- Assists in the distribution and collection of athletic gear.
- Assists in upholding school rules, administrative regulations, board policy, and AAA/NJSIAA sports regulations.
- Actively participates with the coaching staff and larger athletic department team.
Administrative Responsibilities
- Assists the athletic director in organizing competitions and transportation.
- Recommends the purchase of equipment, supplies, and uniforms.
- Obtains written parental permission and files team member records.
- Assists in budget preparation and administration for the athletic program.
- Maintains accurate, complete, and correct records as required by law, policy, and regulation.Ensures student and team data is up-to-date and filed appropriately.
- Follows district, state, and school policies and expectations.
- Takes necessary and reasonable precautions to protect students, equipment, and facilities daily.
- Maintains personal safety of students and responds to emergency situations promptly.
Professionalism
- Reports to work as scheduled on a regular and reliable basis.
- Participates in professional development activities, including training in the Science of Reading, differentiation, and job-embedded curriculum development.
- Engages in continuous learning to understand and use evidence-based instructional and coaching practices.
- Participates in a growth mindset culture within the school and athletic department.
- Participates in team and staff meetings at the school and district levels.
- Follows school rules, administrative regulations, and board policies.
