Position: High School Agriculture Education Teacher
Location: Greene County High School, Jefferson, IA
Type: Full-Time
Reports To: Principal
Job Summary:
We are seeking a dedicated and passionate High School Agriculture Education Teacher to lead our agriculture program. The ideal candidate will inspire students through engaging, hands-on instruction that prepares them for careers and further education in agriculture, agribusiness, animal science, horticulture, and related fields. The teacher will also serve as the National FFA Organization advisor, fostering leadership, personal growth, and career success among students.
Key Responsibilities:
- Develop and implement a comprehensive agriculture curriculum aligned with state standards and local needs.
- Teach a variety of agriculture-related subjects that are related and relevant to the CTE Standards developed for the program
- Provide hands-on, project-based learning opportunities, including the supervision of student Supervised Agricultural Experiences
- Advise the school’s FFA chapter, promoting leadership, citizenship, and competitive events participation.
- Collaborate with local agricultural businesses, community organizations, and other educators to create meaningful learning experiences.
- Maintain and manage agricultural facilities, including green houses and crop plots as needed
- Ensure a safe, inclusive, and supportive classroom and lab environment.
- Support student career development through coaching, mentorship, and exploration of post-secondary opportunities.
- Participate in professional development and stay current with trends in agricultural education.
- Fulfill school and district responsibilities, including parent communication, recordkeeping, and staff meetings.
- Teach classes that fall under the Career Academy that is in partnership with Iowa Central; candidate would be required to use Iowa Central's curricular materials to provide college-level experiences to students from Greene County and surrounding schools (classes all take place in the Career Academy classrooms in Jefferson).
- Extended day contract available; partnership with the Assistant FFA Advisor.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in Agricultural Education, Agriculture, or a related field.
- Valid teaching certification or ability to obtain certification in Iowa.
- Knowledge of modern agricultural practices and technology.
- Strong communication, organizational, and leadership skills.
- Experience with FFA or other youth leadership programs preferred.
- Ability to build positive relationships with students, families, and the community.
