What are the responsibilities and job description for the Prevention Specialist position at Greene County Educational Service Center?
We are seeking a qualified candidate to join our Prevention Services Team starting in August of 2025. The Prevention Team’s mission is to provide the most up-to-date preventive services to youth and adults in Greene County and surrounding areas. The evidence-based programs and services we provide focus on substance use/misuse, suicide prevention, building resiliency, and development of skills to manage anxiety, depression, and stressors youth may experience.
Evidence Based Programs our Prevention Team provides include:
Minimum requirements include: Bachelor's degree in Social Services/Social work; Currently hold a Registered Applicant (RA) credential with Ohio Chemical Dependency Professionals Board; Work experience in the field of prevention — specifically, with students in grades K-12.
Preferred qualifications include:
Salary commensurate with education and license.
Evidence Based Programs our Prevention Team provides include:
- Trauma 101
- Stewards of Children
- QPR: Question, Persuade, Refer
- Hidden in Plain Sight
- SBIRT: Screening, Brief Intervention and Referral to Treatment (in schools only for ages 12 up)
- Mental Health First Aid (Youth and Adult)
- SOS: Sources of Strength
- Botvin Life Skills

Preferred qualifications include:
- Familiarity with substance abuse prevention, ideally SBIRT
- Excellent written and oral communication skills
- Excellent presentation skills, organizational skills, and technology/computer skills, especially in Microsoft Excel
- Ability to be flexible and professional in dealing with staff, stakeholders, partners, and students
- Must possess considerable knowledge of community organization principles and resources and community prevention needs
- Solid knowledge of current trends and developments in prevention programs
- Ability to plan, implement, and evaluate prevention programs for diverse populations
- Ability to be proactive in finding resources and partners to aide in implementing programs for students
- Strong and positive work history and attendance records
- Must be a self-motivator who is adept at planning schedule and timelines.
- Comply with GCESC policies and procedures.
- Conducts, coordinates, and implements prevention services and activities on behalf of the organization.
- Establishes and maintains positive relationships with partner agencies and school districts
- Participates in all necessary meetings and trainings
- Leads various student programs/activities such as Youth Led Prevention
- Have ability to survey stakeholders, examine needs assessment results, and implement programs based on those results
- Ability to team with various people from various agencies and districts
