The Occupational Therapist provides a variety of services to patients, to include coordination, implementation and supervision of the clinical practice of occupational therapy. Responsible for providing comprehensive diagnostic, consultative, and/or treatment services for individual with disorders that cause impaired functioning in activities of daily living. Plans, directs, or conducts therapy modalities designed to improve patient quality of life.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
- Adhere to professional, ethical and legal standards of practice.
- Meets the patient's goals and needs and provides quality care by assessing and interpreting evaluations and test results; determines occupational therapy treatment plans in consultation with physicians or by prescription.
- Perform thorough evaluations of patients’ functional status, including muscle function, endurance, visual coordination, written and verbal communication skills and ADL and IADL performance.
- Assess cognitive, psychological, and motor aspects of performance and develop individualized intervention plans to achieve favorable outcomes.
- Educate patients and caregivers for home environment hazards or barriers to more independent living.
- Identify equipment needs and environmental adaptations resulting in enhanced outcomes for clients.
- Continually assess and revise the occupational therapy care plan, and participate with nursing in the multidisciplinary care plan, as appropriate.
- Completes discharge planning by consulting with providers, nurses, social workers, and other health care workers, contributing to patient care conferences.
- Educate and instruct patients, family members, or other patient representatives, in rehabilitative care and activities necessary to promote the client's health, safety and independent living.
- Accurately document observations, interventions and evaluations pertaining to patient care management and services provided, utilizing clinical software and equipment.
- Demonstrates clear ownership of workplace and patient safety.
- Reports mistakes, near misses, adverse events and quality and safety concerns.
- Participates in the development and implementation of safety and quality improvement activities.
- Protects patient privacy in accordance with all HIPAA and privacy laws.
- Other duties as may be assigned.
Job Requirements
Education: Bachelor’s degree in Occupational Therapy required.
Licensure/Certification: Current Indiana License in Occupational Therapy required.
Experience: Two years of experience in occupational therapy preferred. Ability to plan, implement, administer and coordinate an occupational therapy program, from eligibility determination to exit. Ability to select and administer appropriate assessment tools and interpret results of assessment.
Physical Requirements: Frequent sitting, standing, and walking. May be required to lift up to 100 lbs. alone. Frequent bending, stooping, and reaching. Good visual acuity.
