Description
The first supervisory class works under direction and requires thorough knowledge of supervisory theories and principles; personnel management techniques (i.e., motivation, evaluation, corrective action, problem solving, counseling, interviewing, selection); construction practices and techniques; plans and blueprints; Local and State codes, laws and regulations affecting construction activities; safety practices and procedures to perform a wide variety of inspections to ensure compliance with building and electrical codes.
WORKING HOURS : 7 : 00 a.m. - 3 : 30 p.m. (Monday - Friday)
Duties / Responsibilities

Plans, organizes, directs & supervises the work of subordinate employees : interviews prospective employees; monitors performance & work quality of subordinates & their adherence to federal, state & county policies & safety procedures; recommends hiring, discipline or removal; coordinates inspection activities with other segments of the Division.
Researches, surveys, & analyses information on construction projects : provides technical information & advise to supervisors in decision making; gathers field data to make recommendations & assists in developing routine & new procedures, policies & projects. Furnishes information & explains regulations to contractors & property owners : researches & responds to inquiries; investigates & monitors the correction of complaints from property owners.
Attends pre-construction & project progress meetings : conducts final approval upon construction or project completion for acceptance payment of bond release by Department. Visits construction sites to ensure plans & specifications are being enforced by inspectors : monitors safe working conditions; troubleshoots unforeseen problems in the field during construction through investigation & evaluation of the problem.
Assesses employee training needs & arranges necessary training sessions to enhance their knowledge : explains construction specifications in detail to subordinates, as well as reason for each requirement.
Performs others duties of a similar nature or level as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications
High School Diploma or General Equivalency Diploma (G.E.D.) and 6 yrs. experience performing and documenting commercial construction inspections.
- Or equivalent of Minimum Class Qualifications for Employment noted above may be substituted for the education and / or experience required. Education and Experience may not be substituted for mandated licensure / certification.
POSITION SPECIFIC MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS :
Ohio Class I Water Distribution Certification; or
Ohio Class I Water Collection Certification.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS :
Ohio Class II Water Collection Certification.
