The Speech-Language Pathologist Assistant (SLPA) provides support to the Speech-Language Pathologists (SLPs) in delivering speech and language services to students with special education needs. Key Responsibilities:
- Assist the SLP in providing speech and language therapy services to students as per their Individualized Education Plans (IEPs).
- Implement therapy programs and exercises under the direction of the supervising SLP, focusing on speech, language, and communication skills development.
- Provide direct, hands-on support to students in small group or individual sessions, reinforcing lessons and assisting with therapy exercises.
- Track and document student progress towards therapeutic goals, making observations about performance, and reporting any concerns to the supervising SLP.
- Modify and adapt therapy activities and materials based on individual student needs and progress.
- Support students with special education needs in developing social communication, pragmatic language skills, and other related speech and language goals.
- Monitor students during therapy sessions, ensuring a positive, engaging, and supportive learning environment.
- Collaborate with classroom teachers, special education staff, and parents to ensure therapy services are integrated into the classroom and meet the needs of each student.
- Provide feedback and suggestions for accommodations or strategies to support students' communication needs across the school day.
- Assist with the preparation and organization of materials and resources needed for therapy sessions.
- Maintain confidentiality regarding student information and adhere to all applicable school district policies and regulations.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Experience working with special education students or in a school setting.
