JOB TITLE: Greenfield Central Junior High School Dean of Students and Athletic Director
REPORTS TO: Principal
SUPERVISES: Junior High School Athletic Coaches
EMPLOYMENT AND FLSA STATUS: Exempt/Salary
POSITION PURPOSE
Assist administrators, teachers, parents and students in resolving student attendance, behavioral and disciplinary problems in a consistent manner. Under the direct supervision of a School Principal, manage and coordinate school athletic activities and sports programs to promote athletics and physical fitness and ensure that all students have an equal opportunity to participate and share in the benefits of the district's athletic programs.
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS
DEAN OF STUDENTS
Assist teachers, parents and students in resolving non-academic student issues in the school, such as behavioral problems.
Maintains records of any student disciplinary actions taken in accordance with applicable laws and regulations, and District policies.
Reports to administrators, teachers, school attendance staff, parents, and students relative to issues affecting student performance.
Recommends appropriate programs for students to assist them with behavioral problems.
Instructs and advises students regarding their responsibility to adhere to school rules and policies, to foster a safe school environment, and to respect other individuals and property.
Assists in the administration of the In-School Detention Program and co-curricular activities.
Arranges meetings as directed with students, parents, teachers, and administrators regarding disciplinary problems in school.
Coordinates with community and government agencies relating to drug and alcohol abuse, truancy, and other conduct.
Coordinate the school’s branding and public communications with the Principal and Assistant Principal
Assists in developing policies and practices to assure building security and safety.
Performs all other duties as assigned by the building principal.
ATHLETIC DIRECTORAssists with the implementation of Board Policies, School Policies, and Athletic Department Policies to coaches at all levels.
Assists with the hiring of coaching vacancies.
Evaluation of coaches.
Makes recommendations for the improvement and upkeep of the athletic facilities and athletic program.
Assists with budget preparation and financial support of the athletic program.
Assists in administering disciplinary action to student/athletes when necessary.
Assists in promoting good sportsmanship by our coaches, athletes, and fans.
Understand the administrative chain of command and work through proper channels when making requests or voicing concerns.
Work to stay abreast of new innovations in athletics and constantly seek to improve oneself as an athletic administrator.
Attends athletic department meetings, building administrator meetings, corporation athletic director meetings, and other meetings as requested.
Assists in preparing, filing, and recording financial records for the use of the athletic department.
Assists with the scheduling of athletic contests and necessary transportation.
Assists in contracting and payment of licensed contest officials.
Attends most home and away athletic contests and/or makes arrangements for proper event supervision.
Cancel or postpone contracted contests, officials, workers, transportation, etc. because of weather or other conditions as needed.
Coordinates the use and scheduling of all athletic facilities for all athletic contests and coordinates the set up of the physical plant.
Coordinates and manages all facility uses by the community and outside groups.
Schedules event workers, ticket sellers, etc.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & ABILITIES
Knowledge of athletics, athletic programs, and physical fitness.
Knowledge of applicable federal and state laws and regulations regarding school district athletic programs, safety and health, and other areas under responsibility.
Ability to evaluate, develop and implement athletic programs, activities and events, and make effective recommendations related to those areas.
Effective verbal and written communication skills.
Ability to organize multiple tasks and conflicting time constraints.
Ability to engage in self-evaluation with regard to leadership, performance and professional growth.
Ability to establish and maintain cooperative working relationships with others contacted in the course of work.
QUALIFICATIONS:
Bachelor’s Degree in Education.
Master’s Degree in School Administration (Preferred)
Valid Indiana teaching license.
Motor Vehicle Operator's License or ability to provide own transportation.
Knowledge of applicable laws and regulations regarding student discipline, bullying, sexual harassment, etc.
Knowledge of student behavior management techniques.
Knowledge of dispute resolution techniques and ability to engage in dispute resolution.
Ability to communicate effectively verbally and in writing.
Ability to establish and maintain cooperative working relationships with others contacted in the course of work.
Prior experience as an athletic director or dean of students, preferred.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
Ability to stand for extended periods of time.
Ability to lift and carry 50 lbs.
Ability to work at a desk, conference table or in meetings of various configurations.
Ability to see for the purpose of reading laws and codes, rules and policies and other printed matter.
Ability to hear and understand speech at normal levels.
Ability to communicate so others will be able to clearly understand a normal conversation.
Ability to operate office equipment.
Ability to reach in all directions.
