What are the responsibilities and job description for the Paraprofessional Program Coach/Mentor position at Greenfield Community College?
This is a short term, non-benefitted, grant-funded position.
GCC's Office of Workforce Development seeks Coach/Mentors for the Paraprofessional training program's Community of Practice. Coach/Mentors will ensure students receive weekly one-on-one applied experience sessions as well as monthly check-ins for 6 months following completion of the Paraprofessional training program. Expected case load for each coach will be 4 to 5 adult students.
The Workforce Development Coach/Mentors report to the Dean of Workforce Development and work closely with the Lead Instructor and Resource Navigator.
Hours: Starting on July 3rd, every Thursday from 12:00 pm to 2:30 pm through August 7th, plus one check-in per month for 6 months (scheduled with the mentees)
Dates: July 3 - August 7, plus up to 3 "Train the Trainer" dates in late June, plus one check-in per month for 6 months (scheduled with the mentees) (approximately 2.5 additional hours per month)
Rate: $50/hour
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
- Collaboratively plan each unit or lesson with the Lead instructor and other Mentors so as to provide a supportive application in the individual session
- Maintain competence and expertise in the field
- Incorporate current teaching techniques, subject area developments, and current technology (if applicable) into the learning experience
- Demonstrate effective people skills, communication skills, and work ethic (e.g. preparation and punctuality)
- Support a diverse population of learners Work in a participatory and collegial setting
Job Requirements:
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:
- Three (3) years of full-time work experience as a paraprofessional
- Good verbal and written communication skills
- Good interpersonal communication skills and ease in relating to people from a variety of educational, cultural, and social backgrounds
- Must meet all employability requirements of the college
PREFFERED QUALIFICATIONS:
- 5 or more years of paraprofessional experience
- Para Pro Certification (and/or experience with Para Pro exam)
BACKGROUND CHECK: Candidates will be required to pass a Massachusetts Criminal Offender Record Information (CORI) check as a condition of employment.
OFFICIAL ACADEMIC TRANSCRIPTS: Official academic transcripts relevant to the position will be required upon hire.
