What are the responsibilities and job description for the Workforce Development Instructor, Beauty Career Training Program position at Greenfield Community College?
This is a temporary, part time, grant funded position.
SALARY RANGE: $40 to $50 per hour
GENERAL DESCRIPTION OF DUTIES: The Office of Workforce Development seeks a lead instructor to deliver the curriculum and facilitate the successful implementation of the "Start Your Beauty Career" entry-level training program for an audience of ABE justice-involved learners. The delivery of this program will occur fully in person on site at the Franklin County Sheriff's Office (FCSO). The instructor will ensure students receive career readiness, basic skills, and occupational skills training that prepares them to seek employment upon release, ideally in a customer-facing business related to the beauty industry, such as a makeup counter or salon. The curriculum includes both a philosophical overview of beauty as a broad, subjective, and inclusive concept, as well as basic makeup application and skills / techniques related to the beauty industry. The instructor reports to the Dean of Workforce Development and works closely with the Franklin County Sheriff's Office Education team.
EXAMPLES OF ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
- Responsible for course preparation, delivery, grading, and records management.
- Provide student-centered training to participants residing at the FCSO, including life skills, workplace survival skills, occupational skills training, and personal skills, such as communication and conflict-resolution, required to secure and retain employment in a customer-facing environment.
- Evaluate and support participant progress and deliverables during workshops, ensuring instruction meets the needs of students and leads to positive program outcomes, including the future employment of graduates.
- Evaluate students' progress and communicate any observations and/or concerns to GCC and FCSO staff as needed and as appropriate in order to ensure positive student outcomes.
- Maintain a high level of competence in the field or subject area.
- Incorporate a variety of teaching techniques into the learning experience.
- Demonstrate effective people skills, communication skills, and work ethic (i.e. preparation and punctuality).
- Plan each lesson or activity, as to content, method, and organization, to make each class meaningful.
- Ensure that assigned classes are held as scheduled.
- Demonstrate an understanding of and commitment to the mission and goals of the community college.
- Perform additional essential job functions that are unique to the instructor position and/or teaching field.
- Support a diverse population of learners with compassion and empathy and show willingness to learn about and use trauma-informed pedagogy.
- Work in a participatory and collegial setting.
- Support continuous improvement of curricula and services, as needed.
- Accommodate differing student learning styles in accordance with the Americans with Disabilities Act and the College's established ADA program.
Job Requirements:
MINIMUM TRAINING AND EXPERIENCE*:
- Strong interest and passion for education.

- Strong verbal and written communication skills.
- Good interpersonal communication skills and ease in relating to people from a variety of educational, cultural, and social backgrounds.
- Must meet all employability requirements of GCC and all security clearance requirements of the FCSO.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
- Experience teaching adult learners.
- Experience working with justice-involved learners.
- Experience and/or interest in basic make up, hair styling, and other beauty-related techniques.
Additional Information:
ADDITIONAL INFORMATION:
- This is an in-person teaching role.
- The schedule is as follows: three evenings per week from 6 to 7:30pm for 5- to 6-week program in Spring 2025, with the possibility of more sessions depending on grant funding.
