Requirements of the Contract Physician :
- Doctor of Medicine (MD) degree from an accredited medical school.
- Completion of an accredited residency program.
- Valid and unrestricted medical license to practice in the Commonwealth of Virginia.
- Board certification in a relevant specialty (preferred).
- Current DEA certification and National Provider Identifier (NPI).
- Demonstrated clinical experience, preferably in correctional, public health, or underserved settings.
- Strong diagnostic and decision-making skills.
- Ability to work collaboratively within a multidisciplinary healthcare team.
- Effective communication and documentation abilities.
- Compassion and commitment to patient care in a correctional environment.
- Familiarity with electronic medical records (EMRs).

Job description of the Contract Physician :
The physician will primarily work on-site in a secure, controlled environment. Interaction with inmates and coordination with correctional staff is required. The role may involve occasional travel to other Department of Corrections facilities.
Responsibilities of the Contract Physician :
Conduct physical examinations and provide general medical services.
Record detailed medical notes, including symptoms, diagnoses, treatment plans, and medications.
Collaborate with the Department’s Office of Health Services for case reviews and guidance.
Provide emergency medical services within the facility or local hospitals.
Maintain a consistent schedule, providing a monthly calendar in advance.
Adhere to all Department of Corrections and facility-specific policies, including confidentiality and professional conduct.
Provide 24-hour on-call coverage for emergencies as required.
