Security and Visitor Management Officer

Non-Exempt, 12 Month Position
JOB PURPOSE:
Greensboro Day School seeks an experienced law enforcement professional for the position of Security and Visitor Management Officer for the 2024–25 school year with a preferred start date in January 2025.
The Security and Visitor Management Officer will provide support to the instructional process with specific responsibilities for the safety and welfare of students and staff while on school grounds, including monitoring personnel and/or visitors, communicating information for response to emergency situations, and providing a high security visibility.
This is a full-time, 12-month, on-campus position, five days per week, Monday through Friday, and requires occasional evening and weekend work.

PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Works primarily from the school's welcome booth, greeting visitors, managing check in procedures, and monitoring security office equipment
- Develops and maintains a working knowledge of Greensboro Day School security practices and protocols
- Carries GDS-issued security equipment
- Responds to a variety of situations (accidents, injuries, vandalism, suspicious activities, alarms, etc.) for the purpose of taking the appropriate action to resolve immediate safety and/or security concerns
- Responds to inquiries from students and parents regarding campus security issues for the purpose of providing information, direction, and/or referral for addressing inquiry
- Assists students, school personnel, and/or visitors for the purpose of providing direction and ensuring adherence to safety protocols
Provides traffic and parking control for the purpose of maintaining efficient traffic flow and use of parking lots
ADDITIONAL RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Serves as security presence when on-campus by patrolling school facilities (grounds, roads, buildings, adjacent areas, parking lots, etc.) when needed for the purpose of providing visibility, maintaining security, and deterring criminal activities
- Recommends security improvements
- Responds and assists during medical emergencies
- Is available to assist the game day administrator during athletic events
- Serves as a liaison with law enforcement or emergency services during emergency situations
- Attends annual training as designated by the Director of Security
- Performs other duties as assigned by the Director of Security

Position Requirements
High school diploma or equivalentTen years of full-time certified law enforcement experience in North Carolina
Retired or eligible for retirement in the North Carolina State or Local Employee Retirement System
Ability to work independently
Ability to perform well during a crisis
Ability to communicate during an emergency
Good oral and written communication skills
Basic first aid skills
Excellent interpersonal skills
Significant understanding of security challenges as well as an understanding of various ways of handling types of individuals, mostly cooperative yet sometimes challenging
Flexibility and personal confidence essential

WORKING CONDITIONS:
Work environment for this position includes sedentary, confined to an office setting, and active engagement with the school community providing a significant on-campus presence. The noise level is usually quiet to moderate level but may be loud on occasion. The nature of this position may require supervising students both indoors and outdoors. All faculty and staff are required to participate in regular safety drills.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
Some duties of this job take place in an office setting. This position is frequently required to operate a computer and file and retrieve written documents. The physical demands include, but are not limited to, standing, sitting, walking, lifting, carrying, reaching, handling, kneeling, crouching and bending. There will be extended periods of sitting required when performing administrative tasks and while attending meetings. Presence on campus requires frequent movement (standing and walking) within and around the perimeter of the GDS property. A security cart is provided for the presence and support of security. Must be able to lift up to 50 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this position include close vision, distance vision, and the ability to adjust focus.
