 Job Purpose

The Overhead Foreman leads the crew to complete daily tasks related to the placement of overhead electrical cables to meet customer needs, ensuring crew safety, keeping track of employee hours, completing daily & weeks safety briefings/inspections, and calls in project utility locations. This position oversees the Line team and works with other personnel from other departments.

 Essential Functions

 1. Obtain all the necessary materials for the job & ensure all permits & license are in place.

 2. Oversee, accomplish, and ensure all work quality related to each project and assume full responsibility for its standard and timeliness. Inspect work to ensure job quality and communicate with customers.

 3. Coordinate and delegate daily tasks to crew members related to digging and placing product.

 4. Gain entry to site buildings for work crew and ensure utilities locates are completed for each Job.

 5. Facilitate daily JSA’s and Weekly safety inspections to ensure the crews work safely.

 6. Complete all paperwork in a timely manner.

 7. Place overhead electrical cables.

 8. Connect wires and cables to terminals and attach/detach various kinds of hardware to wires, cables, buildings, or poles. 9. Perform aerial tasks, such as new cable installs, pole transfers, strand building, cable hanging, and lashing. This is only allowed if no critical work is being performed that the Foreman is not needed as a Qualified observer.

 10. Perform construction work, such as digging holes, placing cable, air pipe, and inner duct work in various types of conduit systems and open excavations.

 11. Climb utility poles and/or use aerial lift truck to place cables on poles per system design.

 12. Train new hires and trainees to learn the trade.

 13. Tracks employee hours, WIP & inventory job orders for billing on a timely manner.

 14. Drive, haul, and/or operate equipment to/from job sites to assist crews in completion of work.

 15. Keep the job(s) moving on time, clean up, and perform job restoration at the end of job.

 16. Perform other duties as required and/or assigned.

 Minimum Qualifications

 1. A High School Degree, or equivalent.

 2. 6 years of experience.

 3. 2 years of supervisory experience or Mentorship.

 4. CDL Class A license.

 5. Understanding of advanced electrical principles, including knowledge of electricity and how to safely work around it.

 6. Knowledge of customer’s specifications being able to read and interpret prints & explain them to others.

 7. Proficiency in all phases of line construction.

 8. Compliance with proper safety standards, procedures, and work practices according to APPA, Greenstone or the customer, whichever standard is higher.

 9. Ability to talk with customers’ inspectors and have a sense of customer service.

 10. Experience operating heavy equipment and general construction.

 11. Clarity of vision at 20 feet or more or 20 inches or less, with the ability to judge distance and space relationships.

 12. Precise hand-eye coordination.

 13. Ability to identify and distinguish colors.

 14. Ability to work outdoors, even in extreme weather conditions.

Preferred Qualifications

 1. 8 or more years of experience.

 2. OSHA 20 Certification.

 3. Excavator training.

 Physical Demands and Work Environment

This job operates in a field environment. This role routinely requires extended periods of bending, squatting, climbing, kneeling, pushing, pulling, lifting, lifting in awkward positions, standing, twisting, reaching above shoulder level, working in confined spaces, working off a pole or in a bucket. Also, working in inclement weather conditions, such as extreme heat, extreme cold, rain, ice, snow, and wind for 10-hour workdays, with breaks. During storms this role may work in these conditions from 10 to 15 hours daily, breaks included.

The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of the job. This position is physically active, with lifting required. Must be able to bend and lift and carry up to 50 pounds.
