Job Description:
The Prepared Foods Cook prepares attractive, healthy dishes for the deli, whilst ensuring prompt, friendly, inclusive service to customers, and helping to meet department goals for sales, margin, labor, and customer service through consistent and efficient production, maintaining staff morale and efficiency, product quality, and food safety standards.
Essential Functions of all GreenTree Co-op Market Positions:
- Customer service - Provides friendly, inclusive, respectful, helpful customer service by projecting an approachable presence, greeting and thanking each customer. Responds promptly and knowledgeably to customer questions about Co-op policies and products and refers customers to other employees/resources as needed.
- Appearance - Wears the GreenTree Co-op Market required uniform of the department as to be identifiable to customers and maintains the uniform in professional, clean, and orderly appearance. Keeps work areas clean, organized and sanitary.
- Safety - Works efficiently and in a safe manner, following safety procedures.
- Work Ethic - Takes initiative and works as part of a team. Asks coworkers for assistance as needed and provides help as needed.
- Continues to learn and develop knowledge of the position, co-op, and industry.
- Demonstrates regular and dependable attendance.
- Follows all department and store SOPs.
- Able to clearly explain how Co-op Ownership functions, promotes Ownership and the benefits of becoming a Co-op Owner.
Essential Functions of the Cook Position:
I. FOOD PREPARATION
· Prepares recipes as assigned by the Prepared Foods Manager/Assistant Prepared Foods Manager.
· Maintains accurate and up-to-date records of production, filling in production sheets according to established procedure.
· Researches and develops new recipes to recommend to Prepared Foods Manager as assigned.
· Maintains a quick pace, making appropriate adjustments (volume, planning ahead, prioritizing, and moving from one task to another).
· Balances good technique with speed.
· Labels products accurately and packages securely.
· Organizes and cleans case to maintain attractive displays.
· Aware of food allergens and cross contamination. Prevents food-borne illness by properly using Personal Protective Equipment and upholding sanitary guidelines in the workplace
II. CUSTOMER SERVICE
· Assists customers with product questions. Provides service in prompt, friendly, courteous manner, referring to other staff when necessary.
· Offers tastes, samples, suggestions for purchase.
· Helps customers place special orders for prepared foods.
· Reports customer suggestions, comments, and complaints to the Prepared Foods Manager.
III. DEPARTMENT MAINTENANCE
· Pulls old or low quality items, records and properly disposes of them, following established procedures.
· Maintains kitchen in sanitary and orderly condition in compliance with health regulations.
· Cleans up spills, washes dishes, and takes out trash and recycling as needed.
· Follows safety, storage, and labeling procedures.
· Advises Prepared Foods Manager of equipment repair and replacement needs.
· Participates in periodic inventory counts, as assigned.
· Receives orders following established procedures.
· Handles hazardous equipment carefully and deliberately, maintaining safety awareness, cleans up potential hazards and spills.
· Fulfills other tasks as assigned by the Prepared Foods Manager.
Additional Qualifications:
· Part-time, 16-24 hours per week with various shifts including nights, weekends, and some holidays.
What we’re looking for:
· Required: Attention to detail and accuracy.
· Required: Knowledge of food handling procedures, especially food safety standards.
· Preferred: Previous kitchen experience.
· Preferred: At least 6 months of face-to-face customer service experience.
· Preferred: ServSafe certification.
· Preferred: Some experience in a busy retail environment.
· Preferred: Some knowledge of GreenTree Co-op Market’s product offerings.
Skills:
· Demonstrated customer service skills, and ability to project friendly, outgoing presence and ability to deal respectfully with challenging people.
· Written and verbal communication skills.
· Ability to handle multiple tasks and demands calmly and in priority.
· Computer skills including Word, Excel, Email, etc.
· Ability to safely operate all kitchen and deli machinery, including, but not limited to: cheese/meat slicers, food processors, mixers, knives, ovens, and stoves/burners.
· Ability to multitask efficiently and prioritize daily tasks.
· Demonstrated ability to work well with others in fast-paced team environment, following established communication policies.
· Ability to meet productivity and production standards.
· Ability to obtain ServSafe Certification.
Essential Physical Demands & Work Environment:
· Ability to stand for long periods of time.
· Ability to perform continuous fine work and gripping with hands.
· Ability to read small print.
· Ability to lift 30lbs repeatedly, up to 50lbs occasionally.
· Ability to work outdoors, sometimes under extreme weather conditions.
· Ability to move around the sales floor, kitchen and parking areas efficiently.
· Ability to operate equipment including phone and computer system, knives, commercial mixers, blenders, food processors, ovens, stove tops, slicers, and others.
· Frequent reaching, bending, twisting, and rotating.
· Regular exposure to common food allergens and refrigerated areas.
· Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide whole numbers, fractions, and decimals.
