What are the responsibilities and job description for the Produce Stocker - PT position at GreenTree Cooperative Grocery?
The Produce Stocker is part of the fresh produce department and assists the Produce Department Manager in maintaining product and display quality, accepting deliveries, and stocking.
Essential Functions of all GreenTree Co-op Market Positions:
- Customer service - Provides friendly, inclusive, respectful, helpful customer service by projecting an approachable presence, greeting, and thanking each customer. Responds promptly and knowledgeably to customer questions about Co-op policies and products and refers customers to other employees/resources as needed.
- Appearance - Wears the GreenTree Co-op Market required uniform of the department as to be identifiable to customers and maintains the uniform in professional, clean, and orderly appearance. Keeps work areas clean, organized and sanitary.
- Safety - Works efficiently and in a safe manner, following safety procedures.
- Work Ethic - Takes initiative and works as part of a team. Asks coworkers for assistance as needed and provides help as needed.
- Continues to learn and develop knowledge of the position, co-op, and industry.
- Demonstrates regular and dependable attendance.
- Follows all department and store SOPs.
- Able to clearly explain how Co-op Ownership functions, promotes Ownership and the benefits of becoming a Co-op Owner.
Essential Functions of the Produce Stocker Position:
- Customer Service -- answers questions accurately, knows product locations, seasonality, can identify local items, knows sales periods, sales items, processes special orders, and retrieves special orders for customers.
- Handles unplanned situations calmly and in alignment with Co-op policies. Models exceptional customer service skills and communicates with coworkers professionally.
- Maintains ongoing knowledge of products and uses. Maintains correct assortment in all locations and across the store for optimal synergy and sales.
- Assists in and performs resets, maintaining a clean and appealing department including coolers and displays, and participates in monthly inventory. Works to maintain signage and promotion of products, maintains storage of products. Assists in bundling, packaging, bagging, washing, trimming, and stocking produce.
- Correctly culls, writes off, and disposes of subpar product.
- Understands the use of PLUs and seasonal items, can accurately look up POS system data as needed.
- Understands retail produce practices, including the differences between conventional and organic products. Develops an understanding of use, selection, and preparation of common fruits and vegetables.
- Within 6 months of hire gains a working knowledge of the differences between conventional and organic farming practices and understands retail practices for both conventional and organic practices.
- Perform other tasks as assigned by Produce Department Manager.
What we're looking for:

Experience:
- Required: Attention to detail and accuracy
- Preferred: Experience in POS systems
- Preferred: Experience in a busy retail environment
- Preferred: Knowledge of GreenTree Co-op Market’s product offerings
Skills:
- Required: Demonstrated customer service skills, including ability to project friendly, outgoing presence
- Required: Ability to self-direct and prioritize tasks
- Required: Demonstrate initiative, leadership skills, and strategic thinking

- Preferred: Computer skills including Word, Excel, Email, etc.
- Preferred: Knowledge on natural, organic, Fair Trade, GMOs/Bio-engineered, etc.
- Preferred: Demonstrated ability to deal respectfully with challenging people
- Preferred: Demonstrated ability to work well with others in fast-paced team environment
Essential Physical Demands & Work Environment:
- Prolonged moving on the sales floor
- Ability to perform continuous fine work and gripping with hands
- Corrected vision to enable reading small print
- Frequent reaching, bending, twisting, and rotating
- Ability to lift 30lbs repeatedly, up to 50lbs occasionally
- Ability to work outdoors, sometimes under extreme temperature and weather conditions
- Ability to move around the sales floor and parking areas efficiently and safely
- Ability to operate equipment including phone system, computer system, and box cutters
- Regular exposure to common food allergens
