Position Title: Head Golf Professional
Reports to: General Manager
Supervises: Golf Professionals, Pro Shop staff, Cart staff

Job Summary
The Head Golf Professional oversees all aspects of the club’s golf operations, ensuring an exceptional experience for members and guests. This role is responsible for developing and managing a high-quality golf program that enhances member engagement and enjoyment. The Head Golf Pro also leads Golf Pro Shop operations, ensuring that products, services, and programming align with the club’s mission and standards of excellence. This position fosters strong interdepartmental communication, builds and maintains relationships with suppliers, and ensures members are well-informed and satisfied. Through leadership, professionalism, and a passion for the game, the Head Golf Pro upholds the club’s commitment to service, quality, and an outstanding golf experience.
Essential Duties include, but are not limited to:
Trust & Teamwork:
- Supervises, trains and directs club golf staff in customer service, golf cart maintenance, Golf Pro Shop procedures and GCC policies
- Supervises and oversees work schedules for the Golf Pro Shop operation, golf course and golf cart staff within the parameters of the annual operating budget
- Functions as management liaison with Golf Committee and attends all meetings
- Meets regularly with appropriate department leaders to review the condition of the golf course and makes recommendations on areas needing attention
- Promotes inter-connectivity/cross promotion among all GCC golf courses
- Plays golf regularly with a cross-section of members
Effective Communication:
- Designs, promotes and directs all golf activities
- Supervises the planning, promotion and execution of all club-based and outside golf clinics, tournaments and training programs
- Interprets and enforces the club’s golf rules and regulations without prejudice and ensures that the Golf Pro Shop staff is familiar with club rules and policies and enforces them
- Interprets and enforces facility policies, rules and regulations without prejudice
Innovation:
- Prepares annual budgets for golf operations (locker room and junior golf, where appropriate)
- Maintains management reports in sufficient detail to properly track revenue generation along with rounds played
- Provides daily accounting of the entire golf revenue stream and shop expenses
- Provides for the most efficient use of tee times and assures all tee times are properly scheduled
Balance & Appreciation:
- Recommends policy changes in the areas of user fee structure, hours of operation, guest privileges, and other golf functions, as needed
- Organizes, charges and collects fees for all golf-related activities
- Ensure adequate supplies are on hand associated with golf activities
- Controls and maintains an adequate inventory of golf merchandise for retail sales from each Golf Pro Shop
- Other duties, as assigned
Education and/or Experience
- Bachelor’s degree from a four-year college or university and one to two years of related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of experience and education
- Minimum of 5 years of experience as an Assistant Golf Professional, preferred
- Class A Certification member in good standing with the PGA of America, required
- Has completed the Professional Golf Management (PGM) Program through the PGA of America
- CPR & First Aid Certification
Job Knowledge, Core Competencies and Expectations
- Prior experience in all facets of golf operations, including inventory and financial control; employee motivation and training; golf instruction; tournament and event management; working knowledge of golf course maintenance
- Expertise in golfing rules and regulations
- Good working knowledge of golf course maintenance
- Knowledge of marketing, financial management and retail operations
- Ability to develop and maintain awareness of occupational hazards and safety precautions; skilled in following safety practices and recognizing hazards
- Knowledge of and ability to perform required role during emergency situations
Physical Requirements
- Regularly exposed to moving mechanical parts and outside weather conditions
- Frequently exposed to fumes or airborne particles and toxic or caustic chemicals
- Occasionally exposed to wet and/or humid conditions; high, precarious places; extreme cold; extreme heat; risk of electrical shock; and vibration. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate to loud
