Senior Maintenance Technician I / II
Department: Facilities Maintenance
Reports To: Facilities Maintenance Supervisor
Senior Maintenance Tech: Performs preventive and corrective maintenance and repairs on all electrical, electronic and mechanical equipment used and operated at water treatment plants, pump stations and telemetering stations.
- Performs preventive and corrective maintenance on all mechanical equipment and system components, including but not limited to valves, pumps, motors, etc.
- Performs preventive maintenance and repairs of electrical components and systems, including but not limited to relays, electric starters, electrical and manual valve operators.
- Repairs and services plant and pump station electronic transmitters, receivers, elevation and flow signals, and pressure signals.
- Basic knowledge of HVAC, PLC, and SCADA.
- Performs routine maintenance and repair of pump stations, storage tanks, treatment plants, pressure reducing valves, office spaces and other facilities as necessary.
- Provides project estimates, including equipment, materials, and costs.
- Reviews flow charts, pressure charts, etc., to monitor equipment performance
- Maintains an adequate inventory of tools, parts and equipment
- Prepares maintenance records of all equipment/system maintenance and repair work; maintains inventory records.
- Provides daily reconciliations, including work orders, requisitions, and purchase orders.
- Must be able to adequately read and interpret electrical and mechanical diagrams.
- Collects water samples at remote sites as needed.
ADDITIONAL JOB FUNCTIONS:
- Assists in training new employees in maintenance procedures.
- Transfers power to emergency generators and back-up engines as needed.
- Climbs storage tanks for repairs and inspections.
- Performs other related duties as required.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS - Level I:
A High School Diploma or GED, supplemented by three (3) years of experience in mechanical and/or electrical maintenance and repair work in an industrial environment, or vocational/technical diploma is preferred; or possession of any equivalent combination of education, training, and experience which provides the requisite knowledge, skills, and abilities for this job.
Must have good knowledge of mechanical repair and maintenance also fabricating, pipe fitting, hydraulics, lubrication and machinery alignment. Should be able to use a volt/ohm meter and have basic troubleshooting skills for electrical circuits.
Must have a mechanical or pump certification and able to obtain a Distribution Operator "D" within 2 years. Must have (or obtain) and maintain a valid driver's license. Must obtain and maintain CPR and First Aid certifications.
SENIOR MAINTENANCE TECHNICIAN LEVEL 1
- Able to obtain Distribution Operator "D" classification within 2 years.
- Trouble shoots and replaces electric motors, transformers.
- Installation of power circuits from conduit, pulling wire, proper sizing of breakers and wire, and terminating to fixtures, devices or equipment.
- Simulating inputs from calibration equipment to SCADA at correct values.
- Calibrates closed/open input and feedback loops as well as limit settings on system valve actuators.
- Uses laptop to trouble shoot and repair PLC problems, with power supply, CPU, cards or back plane. Able to reset, clear, upload, download programs, and clear faults.
Training/Certificates required before advancement
- Basic PLC course.
- Electrical controls course.
- Journeyman Electrical certification.
- Distribution Operator "D" classification.
Advancement to Senior Maintenance Technician Level II
- Two (2) years' experience at this level, along with meeting the above training and criteria.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS - Level II:
A High School Diploma or GED, supplemented by five (5) years of experience in mechanical and/or electrical maintenance and repair work in an industrial environment, or vocational/technical diploma is preferred; or possession of any equivalent combination of education, training, and experience which provides the requisite knowledge, skills, and abilities for this job.
Must have a Journeyman Electrical Certification and able to obtain a Distribution Operator "D"
license within 2 years. Must have excellent knowledge in troubleshooting, repair, and installation of electrical systems and equipment. Must have basic PLC knowledge being able to troubleshoot, replace components, and able to upload/download programs.
Must have (or obtain) and maintain a valid driver's license. Must obtain and maintain CPR and First Aid certifications.
SENIOR MAINTENANCE TECHNICIAN LEVEL II
- Able to obtain Distribution Operator "D" classification within 2 years.
- Uses laptop for programming and diagnosing problems with radios.
- Advanced electrical trouble shooting and repair. Knowledge of and applies ohms law when making repairs or installing new equipment. Excellent knowledge of analog loop circuits from power supply through isolators, surge suppressors, displays, transmitters to PLC input or output.
- Applies cognitive skills. Learns new equipment from installation to setup, mechanical, electrical, electronic controllers, transmitters etc. Is able to read appropriate documents and apply that knowledge to the job.
- Precise, accurate, calibration of instruments as well as repair/replacement.
- Basic HMI knowledge.
