As the Deli Manager in our supermarket, you will be responsible for overseeing the daily operations of the deli department, ensuring the highest standards of customer service, food quality, and cleanliness. You will lead a team of deli associates, manage inventory, and drive sales through effective merchandising and promotional strategies.
Responsibilities:
- Oversee the preparation and presentation of a variety of deli items, including sandwiches, salads, hot foods, and sliced meats and cheeses.
- Recruit, train, and supervise deli department staff, including scheduling, performance management, and providing ongoing training and development.
- Lead by example in delivering exceptional customer service and maintaining a clean and organized deli area.
- Ensure that all food products are prepared and handled in accordance with food safety regulations and company standards.
- Monitor product quality, freshness, and presentation, and implement measures to minimize waste and maximize profitability.
- Manage inventory levels by conducting regular stock counts, placing orders with vendors, and monitoring product rotation to minimize waste and shrinkage.
- Work closely with suppliers to ensure timely deliveries and maintain product quality and freshness.
- Utilize inventory management systems to track sales trends, monitor product performance, and optimize inventory levels.
- Greet and assist customers in selecting deli items, providing product recommendations, and answering questions about ingredients and preparation methods.
- Create visually appealing displays and signage to showcase deli products and highlight special offers and promotions.
Qualifications:
- High school diploma or equivalent; additional education or training in culinary arts or food service management preferred.
- Previous experience in a supervisory role in a deli or food service environment, with strong leadership and team management skills.
- Knowledge of food safety regulations and sanitation standards, with a commitment to upholding the highest levels of cleanliness and hygiene.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to interact effectively with customers, staff, and vendors.
- Strong organizational skills and attention to detail, with the ability to multitask and prioritize tasks in a fast-paced environment.
- Flexibility to work a variety of shifts, including evenings, weekends, and holidays, as required by the needs of the business.
Physical Requirements:
- Ability to stand for extended periods and lift heavy objects (up to 50 lbs).
- Comfortable working in a refrigerated environment and handling sharp utensils and equipment.
