Greenwich Country Day School is an independent, co-educational day school with current enrollment of over 1400 students in grades N-12 and a faculty and staff of over 350. The original Old Church Road campus is home to grades N-8. The new High School (9-12,) established in 2019, is located less than two miles away on the Stanwich Road campus. Greenwich Country Day School seeks a dynamic and experienced Woodshop Teacher for Grades 4-8. The ideal candidate will have a passion for hands-on learning, craftsmanship, and design, as well as the ability to foster creativity and problem-solving in students. This position requires an educator who can inspire students to develop woodworking skills while emphasizing safety, precision, and artistic expression.

Responsibilities Include:

  • Develop and deliver a comprehensive woodshop curriculum for students in Grades 4-8, incorporating fundamental woodworking techniques, hand and power tools, and project-based learning
  • Foster a safe and engaging learning environment where students can explore design, engineering principles, and craftsmanship
  • Teach students to safely use a variety of woodworking tools, including saws, drills, sanders, and carving tools
  • Guide students in designing and constructing individual and group projects, emphasizing creativity, problem-solving, and attention to detail
  • Integrate concepts of sustainability, material science, and engineering into lessons
  • Encourage teamwork, perseverance, and critical thinking through hands-on projects
  • Maintain a well-organized, safe, and functional woodshop space, ensuring tools and equipment are in proper working condition
  • Implement and reinforce safety protocols, ensuring all students adhere to best practices when handling tools and machinery
  • Assess student progress through project evaluations, skill development, and creative expression
  • Collaborate with faculty across disciplines to integrate woodworking into cross-curricular projects, STEAM initiatives, and design-thinking activities
  • Provide students with opportunities to showcase their work through exhibitions, school events, and community projects
  • Participate in faculty meetings, professional development, and school-wide initiatives

Required Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Education, Industrial Arts, Technology Education, Fine Arts, or a related field
  • Experience teaching woodworking, industrial arts, or a related discipline, preferably at the elementary or middle school level
  • Proficiency in the safe use and maintenance of woodworking tools and equipment
  • Strong classroom management skills and the ability to create an engaging, hands-on learning environment
  • Commitment to fostering a love of craftsmanship, creativity, and problem-solving in students
  • Ability to differentiate instruction to meet the needs of diverse learners
  • Excellent organizational and communication skills
  • Willingness to collaborate with colleagues and contribute to the school community

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Advanced degree in academic/research field and/or professional experience within your area of practice 
  • Experience in and desire to build culture and community with both adults and students 
  • Athletic coaching experience
  • Demonstrated experience in establishing collaborative relationships with external partners/organizations in the design and implementation of learning experiences
