Position Summary
The Accounts Receivable Specialist is responsible for all facets of accounts receivable management including keeping track of all incoming payments and making sure they are accurately posted to the accounts. Provides analytic support and communicates with program staff across the organization pertaining to reconciling and recording of payments.
Responsibilities
- Post and record all incoming payments (cash, check, credit card payments etc.)
- Reconcile daily bank deposits against payments in the system
- Make bank deposits daily
- Sort and process incoming payments received by mail
- Investigate the source of unidentified payments to ensure they are posted to the correct accounts
- Coordinate with department staff to ensure correct financial coding of payments
- Create and prepare client invoices
- Track and manage open receivable balances
- Monitor and collect receivables by contacting clients via telephone, email, and mail
- Analyze financial records for accuracy
- Ensure confidentiality and security of financial files
- Communicate discrepancies to management
- Assist with audits and month-end closing
- Perform other duties as assigned by supervisor
Qualifications
- High school diploma or equivalent required, associate degree or higher preferred
- 2 years of relevant experience working in an accounting field
- Effective analytical and problem-solving skills
- Understanding of basic accounting principles
- Excellent communication skills
- Ability to prioritize and manage multiple projects
- Proficient with Microsoft Excel
