Position Summary
Assist with all day-to-day administrative and technical operation of the Pottery.
Primary Responsibilities:
Administration:
- Perform general reception duties including but not limited to maintaining a clean, orderly and professional reception area and responding to general inquiries by phone and email. Maintain tool supply, manage tool orders, and sell tool kits. Prepare and disseminate studio signage, printed promotional materials and paperwork.
- Register students for classes, lectures, workshops, etc. Support the Education Manager in creating and editing class schedules.
Technical:
- Mix and maintain clay, glazes, slips, and washes for the studio.
- Assist with unloading clay and supply deliveries.
- Load and unload kilns.
- Maintain a dust free work environment and use proper safety equipment and clean up.
Other:
- Open and close the building daily.
- Provide tours to visitors and new students.
- Support the student and faculty in understanding and following studio protocol and procedure.
- Assist with on- and off-site events.
Qualifications:
- A desire to work in the field of ceramics, preferably a BFA in ceramics or equivalent knowledge and hands-on experience.
- Ability to work collaboratively and independently with strong social and communication skills.
- At least of one year of experience with customer-facing or service industry work.
- A self-starter who works well without close supervision and can establish priorities when presented with multiple tasks.
- Ability to interact with a diverse student body, faculty and all levels of staff.
- Must be able to lift 50 pounds without assistance.
- Familiarity with Sawyer, the Adobe Suite, and/or Shopify platforms a plus.
- Must be willing and able to work evenings and/or weekends. Ideal candidates will have a flexible schedule with the capacity to cover for other studio assistants as needed.
