Job Description
GreenWood, Inc., is now actively recruiting Civil Helpers for its Greer, SC, location. Employees normally work 40 hours per week, 7:00 a.m. - 5:30 p.m., Monday through Thursday. We are currently looking for applicants who are interested in a position without the need to travel. GreenWood does not offer per diem at this job site, but does offer paid vacation and holiday time for those who qualify.
The Civil Helper is responsible for assisting with the daily operations of constructing and/or repairing the facility’s structural woodwork and fixtures of wood, plywood, wallboard, and concrete.
Position responsibilities - Essential
- Assists with building rough wooden structures such as concrete forms, scaffolds, temporary framework, according to blueprints or oral instructions
- Assists with building, repairing, and installing counters, cabinets, benches, partitions, floors, doors, building framework, and trim, using hand tools and power tools, and conforming to local building code
- Assists with examining specifications to determine dimensions of structure
- Assists with preparing layout and measures using rule, framing square, and calipers
- Assists with making cutting lines on materials, using pencil and scriber
- Assists with sawing boards and plywood to required sizes
- Assists with fabricating and installing rebar
- Assists with pouring and finishing concrete
- Assists with painting and wall papering
Ensure all safety procedures, practices, and regulations are followed before, during, and after the process to foster a positive safety culture by having a safety-first mindset and approach during execution of activities
Based on the nature of the essential functions associated with this role, GreenWood has designated this as a “safety-sensitive” position.

Essential Skills and Experience
- High School diploma or GED equivalent
- Experience in civil industry
- Level 1 Helper – 0 to 6 months of experience
- Level 2 Helper – 6 months to 1 year of experience
- Level 3 Helper – 1 year to 1 ½ years of experience
- Level 4 Helper – 1 ½ years to 2 years of experience
- Level 5 Helper – 2 years to 2 ½ years of experience
- Level 6 Helper – 2 ½ years to 3 years of experience
- Level 7 Helper – 3 years of experience
- Excellent attention to detail
- Demonstrated ability to perform repetitive tasks with focus on quantity and quality
- Ability to multi-task in a fast paced environment
- Strong customer service, communication (both listening and speaking)and interpersonal skills
- Ability to perform the essential functions of the job with or without accommodation(s)
- Relies on instructions and pre-established guidelines to perform the functions of the job.
Experience demonstrating successful support of a positive safety culture
