HIRING RANGE : Parks Technician I $18.86- $22.57 per hour Commensurate to experience.
Parks Technician II $22.85 - $28.25 per hour

SCHEDULE / REMOTE / HYBRID : This position may involve working a variety of schedules, including evenings and weekends and may be subject to work beyond normal scheduled hours including an emergency call in resulting from being called out for emergency situations creating dangerous conditions for the community. Work schedules can be changed with little, or no notice and mandatory overtime may be required with little or no advance notification. Remote and / or hybrid schedules are not available. However, flexible scheduling may be discussed upon hire and supervisor approval.
RELOCATION : This position is located in Greenwood Village, Colorado. Relocation assistance is not provided.
REQUIREMENTS : The minimum requirement for this position is one year of experience in the maintenance and restoration of parks preferred. Equivalent to completion of the twelfth grade. Possession of an appropriate, valid driver's license and driving record satisfactory to obtain coverage by the Village's insurance carrier.

As a municipal organization, Greenwood Village is a provider of emergency services. Some emergency situations, including weather-related emergencies, may necessitate Greenwood Village employees to assist in areas of work that may not be directly related to the employee's specific job function, but which will be within the physical capabilities, training, and skills of the employee.
The purpose of this position is to perform semi-skilled, skilled, and highly skilled labor involved in the maintenance and repair of parks, landscape areas, open spaces, rights-of-way and trails to assure these areas are safe, available, clean, functional, and aesthetically pleasing while following best management practices. The position also participates in snow and ice control activities; operates light to heavy construction equipment; and to direct a crew of seasonal workers in the performance of varied duties.
DISTINGUISHING CHARACTERISTICS
Parks Technician I - This is the entry-level class in the Parks Technician series. This class is distinguished from the Parks Technician II by the performance of the more routine tasks and duties assigned to positions within the series. Since this class is typically used as a training class, employees may have only limited or no directly related work experience. Possession of an appropriate, valid driver's license and a driving record satisfactory to obtain coverage by the Village's insurance carrier is required.
Parks Technician II - This is the full journey-level class within the Parks Technician series. Employees within this class are distinguished from the Parks Technician I by the performance of the full range of duties as assigned. Employees at this level receive only occasional instruction or assistance as new or unusual situations arise and are fully aware of the operating procedures and policies of the work unit. Positions in this class are flexibly staffed and are normally filled by advancement from the I level, or when filled from the outside, have prior experience, and meet all qualifications. Possession of an appropriate, valid class "B" commercial driver's license and a driving record satisfactory to obtain coverage by the Village's insurance carrier is required.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS :
Primary Duties : Irrigation Crew
- Performs technical skills related to troubleshooting and maintaining a variety of irrigation systems throughout the Village including parks, open spaces, municipal buildings, streetscapes, greenbelts, native areas, and sports fields; adheres to all safety policies and practices.
- Inspects irrigation systems to determine adequacy of coverage area; identifies nature of system breaks; determines necessary adjustments or repairs; implements corrective measures.
- Ensures timers on irrigation systems are adjusted including making wiring and other repairs on timing mechanisms; assists with the programming of irrigation schedules and run times to obtain maximum water efficiency.
- Installs and repairs irrigation pipe from ½" to 12" in diameter using techniques such as : solvent welding PVC, sweating copper, using gasket fittings, or fusing HDPE pipe. Possesses a working knowledge of pumping stations and large commercial or municipal irrigation systems.
- Reads and revises irrigation construction drawings, including written specifications and detail drawings; creates or modifies as-built electronic files.
- Uses a variety of technical tools, such as : wire tracing, toning, and sonde locating, wire fault location equipment, multi-meter, remote field zone activation (Eicon or cloud based), lake level, rain and soil moisture sensors, mechanical joint repair fittings, soil moisture meter (FieldScout TDR 300), master valve (Bermad & Netafim) operation and maintenance, weather station and sensor suite, endoscope and app based controls, and cloud based water flow meters.
- Performs annual testing of systems; plans for and schedules necessary repairs and replacement of system, as necessary.
- Performs proper winterization practices, including draining of backflow assembly and blowing out irrigation components with compressed air.
- Installs, inspects, identifies, and approves new irrigation systems; coordinates with supervisor.
- Operates centrally controlled irrigation software and hardware such as : Rain Bird, Maxicom, and IQ products, Baseline's AppManager, and Weathermatic Smartlink.
- Uses proper trenching and shoring methods and arranges for utility locates, as required, for large excavations.
- Works in confined spaces. such as irrigation vaults in accordance with industry standards.
- Gathers and provides data to respond to and resolve service requests; provides information and reports to supervisor and management, as necessary.
- Collects and maintains data on irrigation equipment; maintains necessary logs; maintains records of all maintenance performed on equipment.
- Utilizes CityWorks, GIS / GPS, AutoCAD, etc. for updating and maintaining information.
- Performs trash and recycling removal duties at all parks, native areas, and roadside areas throughout the Village.
- Coordinates with other crews to ensure no disruption to other parks activities or maintenance operations.
- Performs physically arduous work outdoors and in adverse weather conditions.
- Operates light to heavy equipment and various hand and power tools to perform assigned duties.
- Operates tractors with attachments.
- Responds to and performs after-hours calls for service and emergency repair; works various shifts, as required, to provide necessary coverage, including responding to park concern requiring immediate attention outside of regular hours.
Secondary Duties : Irrigation Crew may be asked to perform these duties as necessary.

Equipment Utilized :
Requires the capability to properly and safely operate a wide variety of equipment used in parks maintenance and restoration including large mowers and zero turn mowers; edgers; line trimmers; ATVs; UTVs; tractors with aerator, spreader, top dresser, and over seeder attachments; backhoes; front-end loader; skid steer; forklift; ball drag; blowers; sprayers; air compressor; portable generators; pick-up truck; single and double axel truck; snow blowers; and hand tools.
Contact with Others :
Primary internal contact is with own or other maintenance crews for purposes of completing assignments. Primary external contacts are with park users, and equipment or material suppliers.
Supervisory Requirements :
Receives general supervision from the Park Supervisors. May exercise technical and functional supervision over seasonal or temporary workers. Parks Technician III's may exercise technical and functional supervision over Parks Technician I's and II's.
Hazards :
Frequently exposed to safety hazards from equipment operated, manual labor, and work in high traffic areas. Job frequently requires physical effort requiring lifting of objects weighing over 50-pounds. Ambient outdoor temperature extremes.
