JOB TITLE: Accounting Technician
DEPARTMENT: Finance & Human Resources
SUPERVISOR: Senior Accountant
SALARY RANGE: $22.25 - $30.75 per hour
HIRING RANGE: $22.25 - $26.50 per hour Commensurate to experience.
This is a Non-Exempt/Hourly position

REQUIREMENTS: Two years of progressively responsible technical accounting experience. Equivalent to the completion of the twelfth grade supplemented by college level course work in accounting or a related field. An associate’s degree in accounting, finance or business administration is preferred.

The City of Greenwood Village welcomes your application for the Accounting Technician position within our Finance & Human Resources Department. The purpose of this position is to maintain, compile, and analyze financial information necessary to provide accurate and timely information used to make sound financial decisions. Typical activities include processing accounts receivable transactions, maintaining capital asset records and performing physical inventories, reviewing daily cash receipt transactions, and reconciling various accounts.
As a municipal organization, Greenwood Village is a provider of emergency services. Some emergency situations, including weather-related emergencies, may necessitate Greenwood Village employees to assist in areas of work that may not be directly related to the employee’s specific job function, but which will be within the physical capabilities, training, and skills of the employee.

Essential Functions
A. Accounting Responsibilities
- Maintains miscellaneous accounts receivable files and prepares and distributes invoices primarily related to public safety extra duty and intergovernmental agreements. Also reconciles subsidiary ledger at month-end.
- Assists in the monitoring of capital asset acquisitions and disposals, inputs capital asset information into the financial system and conducts physical inventories.
- Supports month-end closing including entering journal entries and reconciling various balance sheet accounts.
- Supports year end audit processes including compiling information requested by external auditors and preparing various schedules as needed.
- Tracks and reconciles returned checks, coordinates with departments to facilitate collections and resolves discrepancies.
- Conducts daily reviews of deposit transactions to ensure accuracy, completeness, and compliance with internal procedures.
- Provides backup support by receiving departmental deposits, verifying accuracy, completing daily worksheets, performing desktop check deposits and preparing weekly cash deposits for bank courier pickup.

- Meet the physical requirements of the position including frequently sitting at a computer for several hours; walking or standing for brief periods of time; talking to and hearing customers on the telephone and in person; reaching with hands and arms; and stooping, bending and kneeling
Experience and Training:
Experience: Two years of progressively responsible technical accounting experience.

Licenses or Certificates:
Possession of, or ability to obtain, an appropriate, Colorado valid driver’s license and a driving record satisfactory to obtain coverage by the City’s insurance carrier.

Receives general direction from the Senior Accountant. Exercises no supervision.
