JOB SUMMARY:
The Kitchen Associate is responsible for preparing, cooking, and serving meals in accordance with the direction of the Kitchen Manager and while complying with DHEC and other government safety directives. This includes following standardized recipes and established food preparation procedures to meet nutritional and quality standards, evaluating prepared food for flavor, appearance, and temperature, inspecting food items and supplies for quantity, quality, and compliance with health standards, maintaining food and supply inventory, and assisting with other duties as assigned by the Kitchen Manager.

Primary Responsibilities:
- Prepare, cook, and serve meals following direction of Kitchen Manager.
- Prepare food according to standardized recipes and established food preparation procedures to meet nutritional and quality standards.
- Evaluate prepared food for flavor, appearance, and temperature to required standards.
- Inspect food items and/or supplies to verify quantity, quality and specifications of orders and compliance with required health standards.
- Assist in keeping food and supply inventory.
- Receive food items and/or supplies and place them in designated areas in appropriate storage conditions to prevent spoilage or contamination.
- Track incoming inventory and compare to pre-ordered invoicing to ensure accuracy in the receipt of delivered goods.
- Set-up and perform proper washing and sanitizing of kitchen pots, pans, silverware, glassware, etc.
- Assist with serving proportions of food for each client meal being prepared.
- Perform other reasonable duties as assigned by the Kitchen Manager.
Other Responsibilities:
· Perform other related work as required.
· Attend Special Events as needed, to include weekends.
Materials and Equipment Used:
- Commercial kitchen equipment, including stoves, ovens, mixers, knives, cutting boards, and other cooking utensils.
Licenses and Certifications:
- Formal food service training is preferred.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS REQUIRED:
Education and Experience:
- High School Diploma or equivalent.
- A minimum of 2 years experience in food service is required.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
- Formal food service training is preferred.
- Knowledge of food safety, sanitation practices, and commercial kitchen equipment.
- Ability to work with others, especially working with diverse individuals in a team environment.
- Ability to communicate well, especially in giving and receiving instructions and information related to kitchen operations.
- Ability to handle a variety of tasks concurrently and to work through changes and interruptions, within a deadline.
Mental and Physical Abilities:
- Physical demands include lifting, carrying, squatting, twisting and bending with up to 40lbs on a regular basis, carrying, pushing, and/or pulling.
Working Conditions:
· Work in a commercial kitchen environment with exposure to high heat, sharp objects, and potentially hazardous substances.
· There are up to 10% of responsibilities that require working outside and within our local community. This outside work involves the elements with temperature change, precipitation, varying other business environments, etc. associated with outside related community engagement.
