What are the responsibilities and job description for the Student Concern Specialist/ Family Services Coordinator- 195 days position position at Greg Mathis Charter High School?
JOB GOAL:
1.To assist with the general supervision of the student population at Greg Mathis Charter High School including but not limited to student sign -in and security screening in the morning, conducting security spot checks and dismissal duties.
2. To provide counseling and behavioral coaching support support for students as needed..
3. To provide family support targeted toward parent education sessions and the provision of resource support.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:
- Experience working with high risk youth in a supervisory or advisory capacity;
- Associates Degree or Bachelors Degree
- Experience working with an at risk student population.
- Possesses strong oral and written communication skills;
- Ability to work well with diverse populations;
- Possesses excellent organizational skills and the ability to work independently;
- Understands the issues pertinent to school safety and high-risk adolescents and their family members;
- Must be an energetic self-starter.
- Ability to listen and communicate effectively in order to gather, convey or exchange information;

- PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Provides both group and individual sessions to assist students with behavior problems that may hinder the learning process;
- Utilizes community based resources to share employment experiences with the students;
- Promotes the daily operation of the program by scheduling activities and communication with stakeholders;
- Schedules speakers, groups, and programs to come and speak/visit with students;
- Assists with referrals for professional counseling services to outside agencies;
- Meets with students, teachers, and guidance department upon the student’s return to school;
- Makes recommendations to principal and/or assistant principal for further case study of troubled students not meeting requirements;
- Schedules meetings for conferences to include parents, teachers, administrators, counselors, and staff to address the students’ problem or needs;
- Monitors student attendance by contacting parents when students are absent;
- Works with principal and/or assistant principal to implement Attendance Plan;
- Input, documents, and submits data into Power School that generates local and state reports;
- Maintains a secured filing system for all important documents in reference to students and staff;
- Assists the principal and/or assistant principal in the daily operations of the program (office duties, contacting parents, consulting with referring agencies, and other duties as requested ;
- Keeps the principal or his/her designee informed on all problems and accomplishments;
- Supervises and controls activities of students assigned under the principal’s control;
- Takes immediate action on own authority and initiative to resolve conflicts between student and/or students and staff;
- Reports the status of student behavior regularly to the principal and assistant principal;
- Provides feedback to the staff about students and special needs;
- Receives, evaluates, and forwards reports from students and staff, taking necessary action to determine causes, resolving problems and informing the principal or his/her designee;
- Establishes priorities for work to be completed;
- Enforces safety rules and regulations;
- Attends meetings, seminars, etc., to enhance knowledge required for the position as directed by the principal;
- Consults with the principal and/or assistant principal to resolve conflicts;
- Serves to mediate and advocate for students in problem situations;
- Monitors designated areas assigned within the school setting;
- Provides support for diffusing potential conflict situations;
- Serves as advisor to administrators of school and mentor to students;
- Maintains a degree of high visibility among students and staff.
