Description
The Project Estimator is responsible estimating new projects in our Southern Region Office and is a primary source for finding and evaluating new work for the company to bid.
This person will assemble bids, bid reviews, contribute to construction schedules and resource allocations and help evaluate equipment utilization / production.
Responsibilities
The Project Estimator is an integral part in maintaining the project backlog and pipeline for our Florida team.
- Preparation and submission of bid proposals in compliance with projects’ plans and specifications
- Thoroughly review the Owner/Engineer’s plans and specifications
- Prepare any questions on the project and review with the Chief Estimator / Region Manager
- Ensure attendance at any pre-bid conference
- Visit job site, with Superintendent, if possible
- Build the estimate as per the bid sheet
- Review documents to be submitted. Look for prequalification, project histories, staffing requirements, minority requirements, special insurances or bonding. Handle accordingly.
- Solicit pricing for materials and subcontractors, at least two prices per category
- Take off quantities and summarize cost items
- Ensure minority quotes are solicited, order bonds and specialty insurance quotes
- Review crews and production rates with General Superintendent
- Enter quotes and assign to lowest responsible bidder
- Review markups with senior management
- Finalize bid with Chief Estimator / Region Manager
- Review all documents for submission
- Participate in internal job-start meeting to review project, bidding strategy, assumed means and methods, and awards to vendors/subcontractors
- Prepare any pre-award submittals
- Until Project Manager is assigned, follow up with owner/engineers on successful bids regarding notice to proceed, funding issues, minorities, and value engineering
- Attend Post Job Meeting with Superintendent, Chief Estimator / Region Manager, and PM to discuss job details and any problems
Education
BS degree in Civil Engineering, Heavy Civil Construction Management, or equivalent work experience in heavy civil construction is preferred.
Work Experience
Five (5) to Ten (10) years project experience in HEAVY CIVIL CONSTRUCTION environments (heavy civil preferred). Working knowledge of HCSS Software, Heavy Bid is highly preferred.
Knowledge, skills, and abilities
Knowledge of construction practices (heavy civil preferred). Knowledge and understanding of general business practices. Maintain ability to work in high production environment. Demonstrated decision-making skills. Excellent leadership skills. Excellent communication and organizational skills. Accuracy at all times. Familiarity and experience with HCSS Heavy Bid software is highly preferred.

Salary : $85,000 - $95,000
