A utility lighting technician utilizes heavy equipment to assist in the construction, maintenance, and repair of utility-owned streetlights.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities:

Work safely while performing new construction, maintenance, or repair work of utility-owned streetlights.

Capable of receiving and following directions

Conduct pre-job planning based on job prints and work orders

Identify primary and secondary voltage on a circuit

Able to utilize underground pulling equipment

Support safety initiatives using personal protective equipment

Ability to setup work zone according to DOT standards

Understands minimum approach distance, excavation, and shoring

Ability to maintain, check out, position, and safely operate bucket truck

Basic understanding of tools and materials used in line work

Qualifications and Requirements:

To perform the job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily.

Advanced ability to read and understand blueprints, schematics, work orders, instructions, and procedures

Understands equipment and work site set up and grounding

Accurately perform basic math calculations to include addition, subtraction, fractions, decimals, multiplication, division, and the use of measurements

Proficiency in critical thinking, trouble shooting, and problem resolution

Ability to communicate effectively (written, verbal and nonverbal)

Requires self-motivation, organization, and prioritization management

Proficient knowledge of OSHA standards and guidelines

High School Diploma or equivalent

Technical degree, 1-3 years’ field experience, extensive mechanical ability, or a combination of education and/or experience

CDL A   (preferred) or the ability to obtain

OSHA Certifications

The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to talk or hear. The employee is frequently required to stand; walk; climb; lifts and carry up to 60 lbs, crawl, kneel, push and reach; use hands to fingers, handle, and feel.

Work Environment:

In performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently exposed to fumes or airborne particles, moving mechanical parts and vibration. The employee is occasionally exposed to a variety of extreme conditions at construction job sites. The noise level in the work environment and job sites can be loud. This position is performed in outside weather conditions.
