Job Description : Key Responsibilities

Operates a semi-truck or trailer according to applicable federal and state / provincial transportation laws and regulations.
May plan logistics to ensure timely delivery of products and materials.
Transports loads safely and in a timely manner over specified route, obeying all traffic and freight-carrier regulations and laws.
Assists with loading or unloading of products or materials, using specialized equipment when warranted. Unloads empty pallets and returns all equipment to designated area.
May be required to maintain signed invoices, shipping bills of lading, and other required paperwork. Delivers documentation to shipping office or appropriate colleague when delivery route is complete.
Completes routine service on trucks, which may include checking fluids, fuel, and air. Reports all maintenance issues and malfunctions.
Arranges trailers in shipping yards for optimum loading patterns.
Be able to use equipment to secure goods and prevent breakage and damage.
Drives and operates tractor / trailer rig or box truck to point of delivery applying knowledge of commercial driving regulations and skill in maneuvering vehicle in difficult situations, such as narrow drives, alleys, access ways, low overheads and overhangs, and passageways. Consults with Company’s customers regarding where trailer is to be spotted. May unload or assist in the unloading of the shipment in accordance with customer’s instructions at point of destination. May wait for trailer to be unloaded and return empty trailer to Company premises.
Performs other duties as assigned.

Requirements

Class A CDL.

A minimum of three years tractor-trailer driving experience – accident free.

A “Safety First” mind set and a clean MVR.

Ability to be an engaged member of a Team.

Must have a clear Michigan State Driver’s record and no public or private record of loss of driving privileges resulting from use of alcohol or drugs.

Have the skills, knowledge and physical ability to load, transport, deliver and unload the Company’s products to customers.

Must be willing and able to deal with customers and working crews in an efficient, courteous, cooperative and business lake manner whether in person or by telephone.

Must have the desire and be able to present self as a professional in dress and appearance. If Company provides clothing, must maintain and wear same. Inappropriately casual attire, unless approved by the Management of the Company, may not be worn when dealing with the Company’s customers in any capacity.

Good written and oral communication skills.

Ability to communicate professionally and courteously with customers and colleagues at delivery points.

Ability to remain focused in a fast-paced environment.

Must be self-motivated and be able to perform job duties without direct and continual supervision .

Person must be willing and able to report for work as scheduled, on time.,
