Job Summary:
The Construction Yardman is responsible for maintaining the organization, cleanliness, and efficiency of the construction yard located in Washington, IA. This role involves handling materials, shop tools and equipment, assisting with loading and unloading deliveries, and ensuring that the yard operates smoothly to support multiple construction projects.
Key Responsibilities:

Material Handling & Organization
- Load and unload construction materials.
- Properly store and organize materials to ensure easy access and prevent damage.
- Track inventory levels and notify management of stock shortages.
- Equipment & Tool Maintenance
- Inspect shop tools and equipment for wear and tear, reporting any issues.
- Ensure all machinery and tools are stored safely and in working condition.
- Assist in performing minor repairs and maintenance when required.
- Yard Maintenance & Safety
- Keep the yard clean, organized, and free of hazards.
- Follow and enforce all safety guidelines, including proper use of personal protective equipment (PPE).
- Ensure clear access to emergency exits, storage areas, and driveways.
- Logistics & Support
- Unloading bulk material deliveries and re-package as needed for individual job sites.
- Coordinate with management to ensure correct materials are available as needed.
- Assist in tracking shipments and ensuring timely deliveries to job sites.
Qualifications & Skills:
- Prior experience in a construction yard, warehouse, or similar environment preferred.
- Ability to operate forklifts and other material-handling equipment (certification is a plus).
- Basic understanding of construction materials, specifically post-frame construction materials and tools.
- Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
- Ability to lift and move heavy materials, up to 80 lbs.
- Knowledge of workplace safety regulations.
- CDL-A would be preferred but not required.
Work Environment:
- Primarily works outdoors in a construction yard setting.
- Requires lifting, bending, and operating forklift, scissor lift, skidsteer.
- May work in various weather conditions.
Work Hours: 6am-3p, Monday- Friday
Ability to lift at least 80 lbs. on occasion
Must know how to operate a Forklift, certification is a plus.
Must be organized with attention to small details.
