ORGANIZATION RELATIONSHIPS
Reports To: Sales Manager
Reporting Jobs: No direct reports. Provide training to Outside and Inside Sales personnel on products and product applications.
Contacts Inside: Senior VPs; District Managers and Sales Managers of all divisions for sales strategy on some products; all FL Outside Sales and Inside Sales personnel for support on products they sell by traveling with them, by meeting with them, and by phone.
Contacts Outside: VP of Engineering to System Engineers at customers in FL, in a sales and/or support setting on a regular basis by meeting and by phone; VP of Purchasing to Buyers at customers in FL in a sales and/or support setting on a need basis by meeting and by phone; key manufacturing partners’ representatives, Product Engineers, and Apparatus Engineers in FL in a sales/strategy setting by meeting and by phone.
PURPOSE
ROLES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
- Increase sales of all Gresco product lines with a focus on technical products.
- Communicate effectively by providing feedback to the District Manager and Sales Manager (sales progress, manufacturer issues, and account issues); communicating with Outside and Inside Sales to manage customers and projects as a cohesive team; and interfacing with manufacturers to promote products and strengthen the Gresco brand.
- Focus on customer support by cultivating long-term high-trust relationships with customers; providing product training; providing field support programing and debugging equipment; attending conferences to promote products, build customer relationships, and promote the Gresco brand; and providing guidance on which products best fit the customer application.
NATURE AND SCOPE
ANALYTICAL
This job requires significant analytical skills to be able to understand a customer’s needs and what products could best fulfill that need. Significant analytical skills are also required to help customers install technical products on multiple systems that each require some amount of customization so that the product functions correctly. When a product does not function the way it was meant to, significant analytical skills are again required to understand the problem and find the source of the problem to correct it.
PLANNING
Many innovative problem-solving techniques must be used when supporting so many products, both technical and non-technical, to resolve the problem in a timely fashion. Approximately 10% of the time is spent on strategic planning of future sales of products with GRESCO or the manufacturer’s personnel. Approximately 5% of the time is spent on planning ways to correct product problems that arise so that future business will not be lost. The ability to handle multiple as well as very different projects at one time in conjunction with strong organizational skills are required. Establish and maintain trustworthy relationships and a likeable rapport with customers, manufacturers, and GRESCO employees is a must, and strong interpersonal skills are needed to accomplish this.
EDUCATION/KNOWLEDGE AND EXPERIENCE
REQUIRED (minimum required job-related knowledge)
- A Bachelor of Science degree in Electrical Engineering, or an Associates degree with >10 years of applicable work experience.
- Strong knowledge and experience of applications of all electrical utility products, including voltage regulators and controls; reclosers and controls; switched capacitor banks; overcurrent protection coordination; and GIS, OMS, AMI, and SCADA.
- Strong knowledge of utility application for telecommunications including cell radio applications and substation networking of IED controls.
- Must be a productive team player.
- Must be tactful, possess excellent interpersonal and telephone skills, have the ability to accommodate and engage diverse personalities, and be capable of conveying a positive and professional image while strengthening relationships with customers.
- Must be able to self-educate and learn technical specifications and understand purpose of new products.
- Display effective written and oral communication skills for meetings with vendors, customers, management, or employees; must be able to write legibly as well as read and comprehend material.
- Must be able to perform spreadsheet operations and create documents on a computer utilizing Microsoft Office applications and various other computer, web-based software, and internet-related programs.
- Must have proficient typing skills.
- Must have the ability to handle multiple projects at one time.
PREFERRED
- At least 3-5 years of prior Sales Engineering or Technical Representative experience.
- At least 3-5 years of experience with computer networks, PCs, and web infrastructure.
WORKING CONDITIONS
Responsibilities require 20% – 25% overnight travel as well as 35% – 40% daily travel for a total of 60% travel away from the office.
