Job Title: Part Time Athletic Trainer
Department: Activities
Education Level and Certification: Bachelor's degree plus training; National Athletic Trainers Association (NATA) certification. First Aid and CPR training required (may be obtained on the job and must be kept current).

Required Job Tasks
The Athletic Trainer is to evaluate and advise individuals to assist recovery from or avoid athletic-related injuries or illnesses or maintain peak physical fitness. May provide first aid or emergency care.
- Evaluate athletes' readiness to play and provide participation clearances when necessary and warranted.
- Care for athletic injuries, using physical therapy equipment, techniques, or medication.
- Conduct an initial assessment of an athlete's injury or illness to provide emergency or continued care and to determine whether they should be referred to physicians for definitive diagnosis and treatment.
- Assess and report the progress of recovering athletes to coaches or physicians.
- Perform general administrative tasks, such as keeping records or writing reports.
- Apply protective or injury preventive devices, such as tape, bandages, or braces, to body parts, such as ankles, fingers, or wrists.
- Plan or implement comprehensive athletic injury or illness prevention programs.
- Collaborate with physicians to develop and implement comprehensive rehabilitation programs for athletic injuries.
- Advise athletes on the proper use of equipment.
- Travel with athletic teams to be available at sporting events.
- Instruct coaches, athletes, parents, medical personnel, or community members in the care and prevention of athletic injuries.
- Inspect playing fields to locate any items that could injure players.
- Develop training programs or routines designed to improve athletic performance.
- Recommend special diets to improve athletes' health, increase their stamina, or alter their weight.
- Confer with coaches to select protective equipment.
- Serve as a role model to all students.
- Serve as a positive member of the community in a way that does not negatively affect the District’s reputation or image in the community.
- Refrain from engaging in conduct that interferes with the operations of the District, including the education of students.
- Develop and maintain a positive and professional working relationship with other staff and administration.
- Adhere to all District policies, rules, regulations, and supervisory directives.
- Maintain confidentiality of information concerning staff, students, and parents in accordance with law and District rules.
- Adhere to the code of ethics of the District and the Nebraska Department of Education (NDE Rule 27).
FLSA Exempt Status: Non-exempt.
At-Will Position. This position is an “at-will” position and may be terminated, with or without cause, at any time in the sole discretion of the Superintendent or Superintendent’s designee.
