Job Description
Full-time 40 hours/week plus benefits
7:30am-4:00pm, Mondays, Tuesdays, Wednesdays, Thursdays and Saturdays
Non-exempt
$18.00-$19.00/hour month DOQ
Reports to: Resource Recovery Manager
Work Location: on-site at Ben Lomond, with potential for hours at our Santa Cruz and Watsonville locations.
Essential Functions:
Primary Responsibilities:
- Orderly processing of recycling materials; direct the public in the correct recycling procedures and bins.
- Provide California Redemption Value (CRV) scrip payments to customers redeeming beverage containers.
- Safe operation of a forklift to empty recycling bins and load trucks.
- Safe operation of balers to compact cardboard, plastics and aluminum cans.
- Accumulate materials, communicate with vendors, prepare paperwork and load shipments.
- Maintain recycling areas to keep them clean and debris-free.
- Other duties as assigned.

Qualifications:
Education
- High school diploma or equivalent helpful plus one year of work experience helpful.
- Must have excellent communication skills to interact with, support and educate diverse individuals including customers, staff, vendors and other stakeholders.
- Ability to work independently and with supervision; flexible attitude in working with the public in a sometimes heavy traffic environment.
- Must be willing to work outdoors.
- Must be able to become forklift certified with organization provided training. However, forklift experience and certification a plus.
- Must be able to come to work on time every scheduled workday as well as other days as needed.
- Ability to work weekends and holidays is necessary.
- All Grey Bears employees must know and follow job safety procedures, attend safety meetings and trainings, proactively promote safety at work, and promptly report actual and potential accidents and injuries.
- Selected candidates will be required to pass a criminal history background check after candidate receives a conditional offer of employment.
- Must possess a valid license to drive in the State of California.
Physical Requirements
- Able to lift and/or move 50 pounds on a regular/occasional basis.
- Ability to perform essential physical job functions typically requiring bending, kneeling, squatting, sitting, standing for long periods of time, walking, walking on uneven surfaces, handling objects, tools, or controls, operating a computer keyboard, pushing/pulling, reaching above shoulder level, stoop, crouch, crawl, and use fine finger movements with manual dexterity.
- Specific vision abilities required by this position include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, ability to view a computer screen, and the ability to adjust focus.
- Must be able to work outdoors.
- Must adhere to safety standards and wear appropriate equipment to include safety shoes, gloves, and other personal protective equipment as required.
