About the Controls Engineer Role
The Controls Engineer position is responsible for overseeing controls engineering project requirements involving control system and panel design, PLC & HMI programming, instrumentation and start-up assistance. You'll oversee large–scale electronic components for automation of the company's custom products to exceed customers' needs.
Responsibilities
• Design, develop and implement control systems to meet process system requirements.
• Develop schematics detailing control system configuration and wiring, and design equipment panel layouts.
• Own projects from idea to completion, including participating in the commissioning and start up process both remotely and at the customer job site(s).
• Partner with process engineers in developing the control system scheme and equipment list.
• Lay out IO for controls panels and redline existing drawings.
• Test control panels and set up instruments and devices.
• Perform PLC and HMI programming, and custom reporting.
• Perform in-house program testing and customer factory acceptance testing.
• Develop SOPs for the control system.
• Train the end user on operating the control system.
• Member of the on-call support team for existing customers' technical support.
• Serve as technical lead on projects, mentoring and guiding lower-level engineers.
• Other duties as assigned.
Education & Experience
• Associate or bachelor's degree in electrical or mechanical engineering or equivalent years of experience in automation.
• 3 years of experience in custom automation.
• Experience with AutoCAD and/or EPlan preferred.
• Experience with Ignition and/or Wonderware preferred.
• Experience within the food and beverage industry preferred.
Ideal Attributes
• An in-depth understanding of control systems, components, logic programming; experience with instrumentation and controls design and PLC systems (specifically Rockwell).
• Strong demonstrated mechanical aptitude.
• Ability to work well with team members, clients and subcontractors.
• Right to work in the US that is not based solely on possession of a student visa or a visa sponsored by a third-party employer.
• Travel up to 30%
