Summary:
The Wound Care RN or LPN plans, coordinates, and provides total nursing care for residents and provides supervision and guidance to clinical staff members in relation to wound care.
Qualifications:
Education:
- Graduate of accredited School of Nursing.
Licenses/Certification:
- Valid RN or LPN license in the state employed.
- Valid CPR certification.
Experience:
- Two year of nursing experience preferred.
Essential Functions:
- Assesses, plans, implements, and evaluates the ostomy care for patients on units.
- Provides advanced clinical guidance to physicians and nursing staff for complex wound drainage, drainage confinement, skin protection, and the prevention of pressure necrosis (skin deterioration and skin loss)
- Develops and conducts educational programs for staff.
- Determines appropriate nursing interventions for identified patient problems, symptoms, and teaching needs.
- Develops a patient care plan and determines the equipment, materials, and resources needed to successfully implement the care plan.
- Selects the stoma (opening) site on the patient prior to surgery, based on the patient's anatomy, activity level, and lifestyle.
- Performs related responsibilities as required.

- Ability to communicate effectively with residents and their family members, and at all levels of the organization.
- Ability to react decisively and quickly in emergency situations.
- Knowledge of training techniques for clinical staff.
- Ability to maintain confidentiality.
