Responsibilities
- Assist veterinarians during examinations and procedures by preparing instruments and ensuring a sterile environment using aseptic techniques.
- Administer medications and vaccinations as directed by the veterinarian, ensuring accurate dosage and proper handling of pharmaceuticals.
- Maintain knowledge of veterinary terminology to effectively communicate with the veterinary team and pet owners.
- Provide basic animal husbandry, including feeding, grooming, and exercising animals in the clinic's care.
- Demonstrate proficiency in animal anatomy and physiology to assist in patient assessments and treatments.
- Handle dogs and other animals safely and humanely, ensuring their comfort during visits.
- Maintain cleanliness of the clinic by performing routine cleaning tasks and ensuring all areas are organized.
- Assist with record keeping, including updating patient files and documenting treatments administered.
Requirements
- Previous experience as a Veterinary Assistant or in a similar role is preferred but not mandatory.
- Familiarity with veterinary terminology, animal anatomy, and physiology is advantageous.
- Ability to demonstrate effective animal handling skills, particularly with dogs of various sizes and temperaments.
- Knowledge of medication administration protocols is essential for this role.
- Strong interpersonal skills to communicate effectively with pet owners and team members.
- A commitment to providing compassionate care for animals in a clinical setting.
- Willingness to learn new skills related to veterinary practices and procedures.
