Help further GRID Alternatives’ mission by participating in the creation of and implementation of organizational strategy. Leading special projects to ensure compliance and improve effectiveness of GRID’s systems and policies, and providing financial analysis, planning and reporting for executive staff and board. The position reports to COO and manages the Controller who in turn manages a team of accountants.

Leading special projects to ensure compliance and improve effectiveness of GRID’s systems and policies, and providing financial analysis, planning and reporting for executive staff and board. The position reports to COO and manages the Controller who in turn manages a team of accountants.
To join the Executive Leadership Team of GRID Alternatives, leaders must advance equity, inclusion, and diversity work and promote an internal culture that examines systems of oppression.
Strategic Business Planning:
- Analyze organizations financial projections to ensure accuracy, identify areas of risk, and inform organizational strategy and decision making
- Assist in creation of organizational budget, including supporting regional Executive Directors and department leads in developing their budgets
- Assist in developing pricing models and program budgets
- Identify organizational needs for financial reporting, and work with Controller to ensure that accounting processes are compatible with these needs
- Work with Controller and Budget Analyst to align budget forecasting tools and accounting records, and to evaluate and implement improvements in accounting tools and processes
Board and Stakeholder Communications
- Prepare financial reports for board meetings for parent organization and affiliates
- They prepare monthly financial narratives to help regional Executive Directors and boards understand their financial statements, analyze trends, and identify concerns.
Audit and Compliance:
- Work with Controller to ensure the organization’s financial accounting records are accurate and compliant with GAAP standards
- Work with Controller to oversee annual financial audit and preparation of 990s
Treasury Management:
- Analyze cash flow projections and work with Controller to manage line of credit to ensure adequate funds are available to meet ongoing organizational needs
- Manage the organization’s relationship with banking partner(s)
- Management and Leadership of Finance Team:
- Manage Controller and Accounting team
- Establish annual Finance team goals based on overarching goals and priorities.
- Monitor team performance and provide timely, constructive feedback.
- Provide Controller and Finance team members with professional development opportunities and other tools needed for success and growth.
What you need to bring to this role...
- Five plus years as Chief Financial Officer or equivalent at a non-profit organization or construction company.
- Strong financial analysis skills
- Experience in effectively managing finances, from developing strategies to handling budgets and ensuring compliance.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to communicate financial information to non-financial stakeholders
- Passion for the mission and work of GRID Alternatives
- Passionate interest in working as a team
It would be great if you also had...
- Experience with Salesforce, Sage Intacct, and/or Vena
- Experience with organizations with parent/affiliate model
- Experience with project finance, tax credits and/or joint ventures
- Experience with CDFI certification
- Experience working with and managing diverse staff
Where you will sit and the places you may go…
This position may rarely require up to 25% out-of-town travel to regional offices and special projects such as company-wide celebrations, team building exercises, etc. Availability to work nights and weekends may very rarely be required.
GRID Alternatives may provide vehicles for work travel and/or travel reimbursement for personal vehicle use. In this instance, applicants must hold a valid driver’s license and have a good driving record.

This is a full-time, exempt position. Salary pay commensurate with experience within the pay band ($180k-$220k annually), plus the benefits below.
