CNC MACHINE OPERATOR
GENERAL SUMMARY: Produces machined parts by setting up and operating a computer numerical control (CNC) machine; maintaining quality and safety standards; keeping records; maintaining equipment and supplies.

CNC MACHINE OPERATOR
GENERAL SUMMARY: Produces machined parts by setting up and operating a computer numerical control (CNC) machine; maintaining quality and safety standards; keeping records; maintaining equipment and supplies.
Desired Knowledge, And/Or Skills
- Written and verbal communication skills
- Knowledge of basic shop mathematics
- Experience in heavy structural fabrication
- Ability to read and understand blueprints, shop drawings and welding symbols
- Proficient in effective operation of welding equipment
- Plans machining by studying work orders, blueprints, plans, materials, specifications, and machine parameters
- Configure mills and lathes by entering instructions, setting tool registers, calculating requirements, including basic math
- Load machine with work pieces
- Verify settings by measuring positions, first-run part, and sample work pieces
- Maintain specifications by observing operations; taking measurements; detecting malfunctions, troubleshooting processes, sharpening and replacing worn tools, adhering to quality assurance procedures and processes.
- Accomplishes organization goals by accepting ownership for accomplishing new and different requests
- Meets production goals in terms of cycle time, quantity, and quality
- Adhere to all Southland Steel Fabricator’s, Inc. Safety Rules, Policies, and Procedures
- Maintain orderly and clean work area
- Attend all required safety meetings
- Inspect equipment each day to ensure it meets safety standards
- Must inspect tools daily before each use, to include extension cords
- Use hand and power tools safely at all times with correct guards in place
- Wear personal protective equipment in accordance with policy and adequate for specific tasks
- Fire/flame resistant clothing
- Heavy flame resistant gloves
- Respirators when welding harmful metals or when ventilation is not adequate
- Steel/hard toe boots
- Hearing protection
In order to do the job, the following physical requirements are necessary:
- Ability to stand for long periods of time
- Ability to occasionally pull, push, carry, or lift tools, equipment or materials 50 lbs. or less
- Ability to withstand occasional bending, squatting, or crouching
- Ability to frequently handle (hold, seize, grasp, turn, etc.) tools, equipment, or material
- Ability to work in inclement weather conditions, to include cold, heat, and humidity
