Duties And Responsibilities
- Lead and manage a team of welders, fitters, and laborers in the steel fabrication shop, ensuring tasks are completed efficiently and on schedule.
- Monitor and inspect work to ensure compliance with industry standards, specifications, and safety regulations. Ensure all products meet quality control requirements.
- Collaborate with the Production Manager to plan, schedule, and execute projects. Allocate resources effectively, adjust schedules as needed, and resolve any production issues.
- Provide guidance, training, and mentorship to team members. Conduct performance evaluations and address any personnel issues. Foster a positive and productive work environment.
- Enforce safety protocols and ensure all team members adhere to safety guidelines. Conduct regular safety meetings and inspections to minimize workplace hazards.
- Oversee the inventory of materials and tools, ensuring that supplies are available when needed and that all equipment is maintained in good working condition.
- Maintain accurate records of production activities, including work orders, time logs, and material usage. Prepare reports for management as needed.
- Identify opportunities for process improvements and implement changes to increase efficiency, reduce waste, and enhance overall productivity.
- Serve as a liaison between shop floor employees, management, and other departments. Ensure clear communication regarding project requirements, timelines, and any issues that arise.
- Minimum of 5 years of experience in a steel fabrication environment (welding & fitting), with at least 2 years in a supervisory or foreman role.
- High school diploma or GED required; technical or trade school education preferred.
- Strong understanding of steel fabrication processes, welding techniques, and blueprint reading.
- Excellent leadership and team management skills.
- Ability to solve problems and make decisions in a fast-paced environment.
- Proficiency in using fabrication tools and equipment.
- Knowledge of safety regulations and best practices in a fabrication setting.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to lift, up to 50 pounds.
- Ability to stand, walk, and move around the shop floor for extended periods.
- Ability to work in a noisy, industrial environment with exposure to varying temperatures.
