Position Summary

Southland Industrial Coatings is seeking a reliable and dedicated Yard Truck Driver to join our team in Amite, LA. The primary responsibility of this role is to perform yard moves within our facility, ensuring the efficient and safe transportation of goods. While a Commercial Driver's License (CDL) is preferred, it is not required for this position.

Duties And Responsibilities

• Operate yard trucks to move flatbed trailers within the Southland Industrial Coatings facility.
• Safely transport materials and products between different areas of the yard.
• Follow established safety procedures and protocols to ensure a secure working environment.
• Conduct pre-trip and post-trip inspections to ensure the proper functioning of the yard truck and trailers.
• Collaborate with warehouse and production teams to coordinate the movement of materials.
• Maintain accurate records of yard movements and report any issues or incidents promptly.
• Adhere to all traffic rules and regulations within the facility premises.
• Perform routine maintenance on yard truck to ensure optimal performance.
• Communicate effectively with supervisors and team members to facilitate smooth operations.
• Assist with other tasks and responsibilities as needed within the scope of the position.
  
  

Qualifications And Requirements

• High school diploma or equivalent.
• Previous experience as a truck driver is a plus but not required.
• Ability to operate yard trucks and other equipment safely and efficiently.
• Strong communication skills and the ability to work well within a team.
• Attention to detail and a commitment to following established procedures.
• Physical ability to perform the duties of the job, including lifting and moving heavy materials.
• Flexibility to work different shifts as needed.
  
  

Physical Demands

Employees will occasionally be exposed to fumes, airborne particles, moving mechanical parts and a variety of extreme conditions and weather conditions.

Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision and the ability to adjust focus.

• Ability to stoop, bend, twist, throw, and work in a variety of climates and environmental conditions.
• Ability to lift 50 lbs.
• Ability to start, control and maintain a complete process or procedure, and possess working knowledge of vehicle safety and control systems
• Ability to apply knowledge of commercial driving and skills in maneuvering vehicle at varying speeds in difficult situations, such as heavy traffic, inclement weather or in tight loading areas.
