The Position
Grid United has numerous large scale transmissions projects underway and is currently identifying and studying additional prospective projects across North America. With patient capital backing and led by experienced energy veterans, Grid United is in a fast-growth stage, boasting a purpose-built team of motivated and entrepreneurial talent. We are seeking a Federal Grants & Compliance Manager to join our team full-time. In this role, you will take ownership of managing and administering GU’s current Federal grants and financial assistance projects. As a key player in executing several federally funded initiatives, you will ensure compliance, effective fund utilization, and seamless collaboration across multiple teams, including policy, legal, commercial, supply chain, finance, and communications. This is a highly impactful position, central to the success of several high-visibility projects funded by federal grants.
Key Responsibilities & Outcomes:
- Compliance Program Leadership: Design, implement, and continuously improve a robust federal grant compliance program that meets all statutory and programmatic requirements, including procurement, cost accounting, timekeeping, reporting, and oversight of subrecipients. Ensure adherence to regulations such as Davis-Bacon and Build America, Buy America
- Federal Partner Engagement: Act as the primary liaison with DOE Project Officers to maintain a productive and collaborative partnership.
- Cross-Functional Collaboration: Partner with internal teams—finance, legal, commercial, and supply chain, execution etc.—to ensure compliance is seamlessly integrated into broader project goals.
- Reporting and Documentation: Develop and submit detailed updates and reports to the DOE, ensuring transparency and accuracy in all aspects of grant implementation. Maintain meticulous and well-organized compliance documentation.
- Risk Management: Identify, assess, and mitigate risks associated with grant compliance. Ensure corrective actions are implemented effectively when necessary.
- Education and Training: Train and educate internal teams on compliance requirements to build a culture of accountability and adherence to federal regulations.
- Audit Preparation: Prepare for and manage federal audits or reviews, addressing findings and implementing corrective actions as needed.
- Occasional Travel: Visit project sites and company offices to gain first-hand knowledge of the work and ensure compliance standards are upheld on the ground.
Behaviors and Qualifications – which are essential to success of this team
- 7 years of experience in managing and implementing U.S. federal grants, including familiarity with audit processes and corrective actions.
- A bachelor’s degree is required, with a preference for coursework in Public Affairs, Public Policy, Business, Project Management, or related fields. Advanced degrees are a plus.
- Strong working knowledge of Department of Energy grant programs, regulations, and reporting requirements, as well as familiarity with federal grant systems such as SAM.gov and Grants.gov.
- Demonstrated ability to maintain comprehensive, well-documented compliance processes and records.
- Exceptional analytical skills to evaluate financial and performance data, paired with a track record of producing clear, accurate, and timely reports.
- Proven ability to assess compliance risks, implement mitigation strategies, and lead cross-functional teams in navigating complex grant requirements.
