Job Title: Nursing Simulation Lab Educator (Practical Nursing Program)

Job Summary: The Nursing Simulation Lab Educator plays a crucial role in supporting the educational goals of the Practical Nursing Program by overseeing the operation and management of the nursing simulation lab. This position ensures that students have access to a high-quality learning environment that fosters the development of essential clinical skills in a safe and controlled setting. The Nursing Simulation Lab Educator will collaborate with faculty to design, implement, and assess simulation-based learning experiences that align with the program’s curriculum and objectives.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Simulation Lab Management:
  • Oversee the daily operations of the nursing simulation lab, ensuring all equipment, supplies, and technology are in proper working order.
  • Maintain inventory of simulation lab equipment and ensure timely ordering of supplies.
  • Manage the setup, maintenance, and storage of simulation equipment, including high-fidelity mannequins, audio/visual systems, and other educational tools.
  • Coordinate lab schedules, ensuring that simulations are available to students according to course requirements.
  • Simulation Planning & Implementation:
  • Collaborate with nursing faculty to design and implement simulation scenarios that support the curriculum and learning outcomes.
  • Develop and maintain detailed scenario guides, including objectives, patient history, and expected student actions.
  • Prepare the simulation environment for each scenario, including setting up mannequins, patient charts, and other necessary materials.
  • Ensure that simulation scenarios are appropriate for different levels of nursing students and tailored to meet the learning objectives.
  • Faculty and Student Support:
  • Provide training and support to faculty on the use of simulation equipment and technology.
  • Offer guidance and assistance to students during simulations, ensuring they understand the learning objectives and receive constructive feedback.
  • Assist with debriefing sessions after simulations to discuss student performance and provide opportunities for reflection and improvement.
  • Assessment & Evaluation:
  • Collect data on student performance during simulations, including clinical skills, critical thinking, and communication.
  • Collaborate with faculty to assess the effectiveness of simulation experiences and suggest improvements or adjustments as needed.
  • Maintain accurate records of simulation activities, assessments, and outcomes to track student progress and meet program requirements.
  • Compliance & Safety:
  • Ensure the simulation lab complies with health and safety regulations, including infection control, equipment usage, and proper handling of materials.
  • Monitor the environment to ensure it remains conducive to learning, keeping it clean, organized, and safe for students and faculty.
  • Technology Integration:
  • Stay current with advances in simulation technology and educational practices to enhance the learning experience.
  • Troubleshoot technical issues with simulation equipment and coordinate with IT or technical support as needed.
  • Professional Development:
  • Participate in ongoing professional development activities to stay up-to-date with simulation trends, nursing education, and best practices.
  • Attend relevant conferences, workshops, and training sessions to enhance personal expertise in simulation education.

Qualifications:

  • Education: Master’s degree in Nursing (MSN) required; a doctoral degree in nursing or related field is preferred.
  • Licensure: Current, unencumbered license as a Registered Nurse (RN) required
  • Experience: A minimum of three years of clinical nursing experience; prior teaching experience in a nursing education program is highly desirable.
  • Certifications: Certification in a nursing specialty or education (e.g., CNE - Certified Nurse Educator) is advantageous. Preferred

Skills:

    • Strong organizational and communication skills.
    • Ability to work collaboratively with faculty, staff, and students.
    • Proficiency with simulation technology and nursing equipment.
    • Critical thinking and problem-solving skills to manage complex simulations and resolve technical issues.
    • Knowledge of nursing education principles and clinical practice standards.

Physical Requirements:

  • Ability to lift and move simulation equipment (up to 25-50 lbs).
  • Ability to stand, walk, and assist with setting up simulations for extended periods.

Work Environment:

  • A classroom and laboratory setting with occasional travel for professional development.
  • Flexible hours may be required to accommodate simulation scheduling needs.
